I agree with trying to let my kids be kids and that pink should be for everyone, but I volunteer at their school and see the parent's views through the kids and some of it can be scary. Not everyone is as open minded as many of us seem to be.
The original point was that there were no boys on the packaging at all, only girls. They could be selling to a larger group if they put a boy or two on the package in addition to the girls.

Target had a blue wood kitchen several years back, but the year after we bought ours, it turned pink in the store! Similar model, new color, obviously with the thought that girls should stay in the kitchen, but not boys. We got that blue one right before they changed it. I was so relieved, but was upset that felt the need. All the pink stuff is annoying, I agree.

How come this doesn't go both ways then? You never hear of people fighting to get specific boy toys or things marketed to girls! Sorry dumb stuff like this irks the crap out of me! If only this much time, effort and money could be spent finding a cure for cancer or some other devastating disease. Actually Lego has gotten a lot of flack for marketing so heavily to boys only and then coming up with a vapid line targeted at girls as a response.

A few thoughts about the whole subject:
1. I don't like pink. I think it's an ugly color. That vast genres of toys often ONLY come in pink is annoying. And it's done because it's meant to send a signal that it is a product for girls and also girls are given the message that pink is the only appropriate color for them. So the color coding trend is limiting to everyone. I likely wouldn't buy a pink anything for a girl. (It's one reason we didn't find out Ian's gender before he was born. I knew if we were having a girl people would buy us 99% pink stuff and I'd be exchanging everything.)
2. My son doesn't like pink. He is flexible WRT activities and doesn't stick to stereotypical interests only. But he does not like the color pink (He does like purple), perhaps b/c of societal messages, perhaps b/c he has two parents who don't like it, perhaps just because he doesn't like it.
So, yes I would prefer color coding weren't used to signal who toys are "for" and shop accordingly. It's taken more effort to find kitchen toys, baby doll toys, etc that aren't pink, but we did it. But it does seem to get harder and harder. Our latest search is for an AG sized doll wardrobe that doesn't have pink.

Sharon Suzy's mom makes amazing AG doll clothes. She is having a show this weekend at her home. She had a ton of clothes there and I am sure if you had something in mind that she could make it for you.

I have looked at her stuff! It is awesome! I can't go this weekend but hope to see her stuff in person sometime.
I meant an actual wardrobe - like a closet thing. We have had NO problem finding clothes that Ian likes. Now he wants something to store them in.

Haha Vic, my parents got Kendall and easy bake oven. It sucks but she loves it. We have only used it twice....they really aren't worth it.
