I just saw a story on WCCO about Bullying. They don't have it up on the web yet, but here is the program they were discussing. www.olweus.org/public/index.pageDoes your local school have a bullying program in place? Taylors Falls Elementary uses the Olweus program. It's written by a gentleman from Hazelden, kinda our neighbors here in Chisago County! LOL! But here is what concerns me... while the program is addressing the issue head on by creating environments that do not allow bullying, I've talked to my kids and asked if it reduces the bullying. All 3 sadly said no... it just makes the bullys more cautious; How they bully (internet-texts) and where (outside of the school's reach). The schools have shown a significant decline in bullying... but it's still out there. Does your district implement a bullying program?

Yes, our district has a bullying program. I work at the school as a paraprofessional and attend every bullying seminars as I can. I have a child with Autism who has been a repeated victim of bullying so I take it very seriously. I was also bullied as a child and I have no tolerance for it, if I see it going on in the school I work for, I address it immediately and forward the situation onto our school counselors.

Langston's school doesn't have a bully program, per say, but; they do have a no tolerance program that is a bunch of bologna in my opinion. We had a problem with a small child harassing my child, and they did not take me seriously that it needed to stop. My son was being hit, kicked, punched, elbowed, and things thrown at him. I observed a few occurrences of it, while waiting for the kids to come in from recess. The school did not take me seriously. In my opinion, it was because the child was half my son's size. I stayed in constant touch with the teacher, principals, and staff...and it wasn't until I started using big words like assault and School Board...that they finally did something about it. My hope was that they would help get the kid's actions under control. What they were actually able to do was to make sure that the kids stayed separated. I was at the school last week...and sure enough, the kid couldn't keep his hands off of another kid.
Just this past Friday, I observed two kids pushing and kicking another kid during a PE class. Only because I know the kid, do I know that he has some physical limitations....and these other children did not. I wanted to tell Langston to go and take these other kids out....but I refrained...
