Our wedding (which was the second of the 3 times we've gotten married) was at Carver Park, in the Springview picnic area. It was a beautiful setting.

My friends got married outside on a beautiful October day at The Woods Chapel in Orono (just west of 494/694 loop).
Another friend got married at Mendakota Country Club in Mendota Heights.

I have been to the gardens here many times and that is great for the wedding but they are looking for reception venues mostly i think. I know they prefer the cities area as there is not much up here for reception venues. Thanks again ladies, you have no clue how much this is helping!

If they are just looking for reception sites and not ceremony locations....I would recommend the Radisson in Roseville. That's where we got married, everything was nice and the staff was wonderful (though that was 7 years ago).
It depends on how much they can afford really, there are lots of places to have a reception and price can vary immensely. Last October we went to 3 weddings, one at Embassy Suites in Bloomington (not the one by MOA), one at Crowne Plaza Downtown St. Paul and one at DeGidio's in St. Paul. The one at DeGidio's was on a very tight budget and it was still lovely.

If they haven't set a date yet, they may want to look at Friday or Sunday. More availability and the minimum cost will be thousands less than Sat night. I have been to several receptions at the Kelly Inn, and I think there was one out in Maple Grove or Plymouth that was real nice.

My BIL is having a wedding reception on Nicollet Island next summer (he and his fiancee are getting married overseas). I've been to weddings at the Landmark Center in St. Paul and outdoors at the pavilion in Como Park. The MN Landscape Arboretum looks like it would be a lovely venue.
