Ds has had a fever since Saturday. How do you usually get rid of fevers for your little ones? I have tried cold wet washcloth on head, fever meds (alternating tylenol, motrin), light clothing, covering w/ a sheet not fleece blankey like they want. Giving him vitamins (C, daily vitamin) lots of oj, water, gatorade. great gma gave us some popsicles to try. We've tried ice cream or freezies to get the fever down, sleep b/c that is pretty much all ds wants to do. Oh ya dd now has the same fever. It has been as high as 102.3. This is wearing on me. They were both needy today. Hard seeing them not well. Oh ya ds also has diahrea.
Thanks for any input.

Many times fevers just need to run their course. All the things you have done will help them feel better. But sometimes, nothing makes the fever go away. It's just the body's natural response to the virus. If it continues for more than 5 days OR won't come down with any of your tools, then I call the doctor. Also, if the fever goes away and then starts again then I'd call the doctor.
The viruses this year seems to be hanging on for a long time. I've heard of people with elevated temps for 6-8 days. Take care of yourself. Even sick kids can hang on their own for a while so Mom gets some rest.

Thanks Bunsy I needed to hear something like that. Just seems like a long time. B/c this morning he slept in woke w/ no fever then around 11 or 12 he had a fever again. good thing he was already at home.

That's why they want them to be fever-free without meds for 24 hours before you send them back to school. Lots of times fevers are gone in the morning after a long night's rest and then it comes back a few hours later. It does seem like a long time when you're stuck home with sick kids.

I agree. I usually just figure the fevers need to do their job - which is to help fight off the germs. We only do IB if he is uncomfortable or it gets REALLY high, otherwise we let it be. Lots of fluids are supposed to help flush out the system, so we keep him drinking.

I agree with the other ladies. Fevers are not always bad things. It means your body is fighting off the infection inside. Keep them hydrated and if the fever gets too high, knock it down with some meds. Sounds like you are on the right track! Hang in there! Just went through this with DS1. It lasted about 5 days.

You say 5 days huh then maybe I am on the final day w/ ds then. On day 2 w/ dd. Guess I should just hang on for the ride and hang in there then. Thanks girls for your thoughts.

Poor kiddos! Glad you took them in to get some answers. Usually if my DDs fevers are 102 or higher I will take them in. I agree with the other gals for ways to treat them.
