Has anyone heard of artificial sweeteners (aspartame, sucralose, etc.) being harmful during pregnancy? For some reason I have it in my head that they should be avoided, but I'm not sure why.
I always want something other than water, but I see those sweeteners in so many things-- juices, Crystal Light, caffeine free pop, etc. I don't drink a lot of pop, but I love Crystal Light and have been avoiding it.
Thoughts??

I used sugar substitutes and my kids were fine, but you may want to look into something that has Stevia as that has no sugar and comes from a plant (of course pot comes from a plant too) because we (I) have been trying to get away from the chemical-y stuff to see if it helps with some of DD's issues

I think my OB said they were in the "we don't know" category. No information either way, so it was up to me.

When I was pregnant I read that "aspartame" was in the "we don't know" category, but "sacchrin" was in the "not good during pregnancy" category. Fountain diet soda has sacchrin, but cans and bottles have aspartame only, so I stopped drinking fountain diet soda and tried to limit my aspartame intake.

Aspertame is bad, very bad. It metabolizes into formaldehyde in the body, there are documented cases of people poisoning themselves. That crap is in everything, including children's vitamins and allergy meds. I don't believe in artificial sweeteners, well other than corn syrup.
