After I had my gallbladder removed in 2003, I developed a pretty serious gluten intolerance. Doctors said not ThAt uncommon... but I was bummed that i had to completely rearrange my diet. Over the course of two years I was able to add some things back into my diet... like white bread, white pasta, bakery items and most snacky foods... but haven't been able to tolerate wheat, rye, barley, oats and anything labeled whole grain or multi grain.... The past few weeks have been rough, and not sure if the stress has anything to do with it, but my tolerance for white breads, pasta, bagels, soft pretzels and floury goodies have gone way down. Looks like I will be going back to my gluten free diet, at least for now. Anyone else gluten free? By choice or disease... What are your favorite brands? this might not be a bad thing....maybe?

Ohhhh shoot, I'm sorry to hear that you're not tolerating gluten very well. That is NOT fun.
I'm not gluten intolerant but wanted to voice my support!!! I eat a lot of quinoa and rice and have a few small ideas. For instance, I like to make a peanut sauce and serve it on rice noodles with stir-fried veggies--the recipe is in the Vegetarian category (you'd have to use gluten-free soy sauce). I also like the brand of crackers that are called "Crunchmaster Multi-Grain" -- they're gluten-free and I buy them at Costco, I think they're stocked at most grocery stores. I like the Lakewinds Coop because they have a color-coded system, and one of the colored stickers by the UPC code indicates gluten-free products so that's a bonus (my daughter is allergic to dairy so I go there for many of her dairy-free specialty foods).
ANYWAY -- hang in there, I hope this is a temporary thing for you!!

I love soy sauce... and will have to switch over to kikkoman... one of only two gluten free soy sauces I believe. Rice noodles? In gluten free section or "Asian" food section at the store? Sounds yummy with a peanut sauce.

May I add that the internet is awesome. I was going to describe to you what the containers look like and realized ... I bet I can find it on line and post a link!! Sorry, sometimes it's the little joys of technology that makes me happy. And yes I'm very geeky about it!!! Hah!

That is interesting that the removal led to your allergies! I had mine removed but never had any trouble with foods. I had trouble with the food before my removal!

Baffles me too. Sometimes I wonder if the sensitivity was there in some way all along, but because I was sick a lot with the gallbladder stuff,I didn't notice it.

Did you know that gallbladder issues are hereditary? There are 5 people including myself on the one side of my family that have had them removed!

I've heard that... but I'm the only one. Maybe certain kinds of gallbladder issues are and some aren't.

Going on one week gluten free... and honestly I haven't even missed it that much. Giving up pasta was way harder than bread... but there are some great substitutes for that. The price is a little unsettling though. I've found a fabulous gluten free cracker... ancient grains, parmesan herb. IMO,way better than any other specialty cracker from keebler etc... same price too. It's been hard having to avoid a lot of fried faves rolled in bread crumbs, or pastry goodies but do we really need to be eating that stuff anyways? One thing I notice that I need to watch is sugar consumption... without the other carbs, I crave it more. At least I can still eat my white chocolate

Speaking of gall bladder issues ... everyone on my dad's side of the family has gall bladder issues and for a long time they all joked that he was adopted because he was the only sibling who still had his. But then he had his out too. So all of his siblings and a number of my cousins have had theirs out. Which really does make me think that I need to be careful of my own gall bladder health ... I'd rather keep mine if possible. But I inherited all of my dad's negative health genes (high cholesterol etc.) so ... it's a possibility in my future unfortunately.
