My poor baby....ok, big boy....got sick on the second day of school, and was sick for six days! They thought that it was everything from mono to pneumonia, but it turns out that it was just a virus...complete with high fevers, not eating, and body aches. I was pretty nervous, because he had never been this sick...this long. He rebounded well, and all was great!
I noticed that he was having asthma issues this weekend. I attributed it to him jumping around in the corn bin at Sever's. No biggie...I just gave him Nebulizers when the coughing got to be too much. I sent an email requesting that the school nurse give him nebs twice today, only to have her call around 2:30, saying that he had a fever and was lethargic. I picked him up, just in time for him to vomit. I took him to the clinic to check for the basics....strep and pneumonia. He was good on both! But now, my baby is just sick again with a virus.
He has never been this sick, this long, this much....what am I doing wrong?

Perhaps he's spread too thin? I know when I've got WAY too much going on I'm more likely to get sick because I'm not taking care of myself.

I was going to say the same thing....does he have too much going on right now? Not getting enough rest.
I will say that sometimes sickness goes in waves.....1 year you are pretty healthy and then the next year you get everything!!!
After he is done being sick I would take a bleach & water mixture and hit every door handle, cupboard handle, light switch, remote and counter in your house. Basically anything you touch with your hands!
I can see on FB that this year tons of crud is starting earlier so I hope he gets better soon and can stay healthy for a while!

Since the original illness was viral, the virus probably never fully resolved and has now "flared" back up again. That happens a lot to kids. You're not doing anything wrong he just needs rest/fluids maybe try a daily multi-vitamin if you're not already.

my son had a year like that last year. He seemed to be sick all the time and had previously been a very healthy kid. We make sure he has enough rest and try to get him to eat his healthy stuff (you know how that goes!)

I was told the same thing about being spread too thin. As I was recently asking myself if DS was in too many activities and was worried about that, our ECFE teacher made a good point. If he starts getting sicker then normal to cut back an activity, he needs his rest. I never thought of it like that. Everyone needs there down time, no matter what my DS says

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that L is sick. It's the WORST being a parent with a sick kid when there's only so much you can do. Last year when my DD was in kindergarten she was pretty much sick from October through March -- strep, pneumonia, ear infections -- you name it, she got it. I would second the comments on emphasizing extra rest, plenty of "good for the immune system" foods, maybe even buy some "pro biotic" foods/supplements (I recently read an article about how your digestive system is more important to your immune system than people realize). Hang in there!

How is Langston doing, Jazzy? Feeling any better?

Thank you for asking, Doe! Monday evening, he wasn't himself, but I didn't give him any meds. Tuesday morning he woke up, and wasn't feeling horrible...but wasn't quite himself. However, by lunch time...everything changed. He insisted that we have sloppy joes for lunch, and ate three of them, and was disappointed that I wouldn't give him a fourth.
We resumed our normal activities, and he is doing very well. The one thing that I noticed is that when he stayed in the house...everything was fine. As soon as we went outside...he began to cough quite a bit! I am thinking his outdoor allergies have hit him pretty hard.

Jazzy - sorry Langston hasn't been feeling well. That is really no fun at all, for him or you. Glad that he seems to be doing better. My worst times as a kid for asthma issues was this time of year, I would just be miserable. There is a good chance that is wearing him down.
