I have a 2008 Dodge Avenger and the brake light has recently started coming on and turning off randomly.
I googled a couple places but everyone just posts what their opinion is and it doesn't seem like anyone knows for sure.
The most common answer is that the e-brake cable needs to be replaced. Has anyone heard of this? Any idea on how much it would cost?

Go to an O'Reilly auto parts store. They will let you borrow the contraption that "reads" the lights and error codes. It should tell you exactly what the problem is.
Cost of repair? I have no idea.

It could just be something as simple as your wires being loose. DH knows a lot about cars if you want to bring it over.

Thanks for the offer Mo! It hasn't happened again since I posted this (knock on wood) I'm thinking that it may be the wiring.

DH bought a used 2010 Avenger in March. Let me know if you find out anything-- in case it starts happening to him too. Good luck! Hope it keeps working well!

Well that's good. I know DH and I are both having issues with out cars. His alternator has been getting really load. It's nothing to worry about really except we don't really have any money to fix anything right now if it quites working. My engine light came on in my truck and I have to bring it to the dealer tomorrow to find out what's going on. It happened once before and was nothing so crossing my fingers it's nothing again or if it is something that it is covered under warrenty! LOL
