What would you do?? I brought my dog to the groomer this morning and when they asked what we wanted done I said she needs a hair cut and nails trimmed. She is a puppy so this was her first full haircut. She had a puppy cut about 1-1/2 months ago. They asked if I wanted her to have a summer cut. I told them I like her fluffy but her hair right now is too long but I don't want it cut too short. It was about 4-1/2 inches or so. I picked her up and she not only has a buzz cut (really short) but they cut her on her stomach. I am so mad. I called and spoke to a manager and brought her back in for her to look at her. She tried to say the cut could have been from her being outside in the brush (Note the dog is potty pad trained right now so she doesn't go outside much). She tells me she will not the file for next time that she should have her hair trimmed no shorter that an inch and would give me 1/2 off next time since she was cut. I honestly don't want to bring her back there. They didn't listen to what I wanted, cut my dog and didn't even call to tell me she was done. I just showed up to get her because she had a vet appointment next door. The vet is the one that notices she was cut.

Definitely frustrating. Sadly it is probably a situation you just need to take as a lesson and not return. Too many strikes in one visit.

Can you post reveiws on Angie's list for free or do you need to buy a membership? either you can read them or post them for free I thought. BBB is also an option. You should get something back esp. if you do not want to return. You could always sit in the waiting room and repeat your experience to anyone coming in

I certainly wouldn't go back to that groomer! I brought my pup to a groomer once and have groomed him myself ever since. It really is pretty easy to do and (through a little trial and error) you get the cut you want! Wahl clippers are great, I know they make specific ones for for dog grooming. A #4 blade gives a nice length.

So today I groomed Blazer (my 11month old Yorkie pup) and I have to edit what I told you before- I didn't use a #4 blade- I used a #6 on his body and a #8 on his head. I scissor his feet, legs, and face as neccessary. YouTube has a bunch of tutorials on how to groom your dog yourself but, really, it's easy to just jump right in and do it!

Wow! What an awful situation! Where did you take your dog? I'm sorry if I missed it in the post. I'm a groomer and I have to say there is a reason I don't get along with other groomers. it sucks when groomers don't listen, sometimes you can't have the cut you want because of matting but it sounds like that wasn't the case with you. A lot of groomers just do what's easiest. Also, cutting your dog is a result of carelessness. It happens and it sucks but 9 times out of ten it is the groomers fault. I honestly wouldn't go back, you should have received a free groom at the least! And she should have admitted to hurting your dog and personally apologized. I take pride in the salon I work in, we ask so many questions it can be annoying but our goal is to give you what you want, not what is easiest for us. Try out other groomers in your area and make sure you tell them about your bad experience, their reaction can tell you a lot. I only know about grooming salons in the twin cities but if I can help at all let me know!

Also... about grooming your dog yourself, if your comfortable go for it. But know that you can hurt your dog if you don't know what to look out for. The tummy, groin, tuck ups, arm pits and behind the ears are areas that can easily be cut with the wrong angle and/or the wrong size blade. And it's not uncommon, I hear stories from customers and new groomers all the time. You just have to go into it knowing what can happen and how and where to be careful.

I've never worked there, just Petco and Shear Elegance. My step sister lives in Anoka but takes her dogs to Fido's Barber Shop in Oak Grove and she's been happy and from what I understand it seems like a smaller shop which is generally more relaxed for the dogs and the groomer.
