My DH and I decided today that we want to move. He wants to move north of Brooklyn Center, but would be open to other directions if the town is not in Hennepin County. My big hope would be that the new town is within 30 minutes of downtown Minneapolis.
So ladies, what are some great towns we should be looking at? DD will be in first grade next year so we are, of course, looking for a great school system for her to belong to.
So, tell me about your towns, Please!
Thanks.

We are in the Centennial school district and couldn't be happier. We live in Blaine but it's also part of Centerville.

Thanks Laura! Blaine is definitely on the list. Any areas to avoid?

DD went to kindergarten in Centennial and it was good. We moved down to IGH and are very happy here. The schools are great too. Still within the distance you want and very nice. The high school was on US News and World reports a few years at least for being good and DD school has great gifted magnet program with one of the elementary schools.

We live in Columbia Heights and absolutely LOVE the area! It's a small city next to Fridley. We had some issues with the public school so transferred the boys to a charter school that is moving into Brooklyn Center but the boys will still get bussed there. We are very happy with the school. My neighbors boy went to one of the other elementary schools in the area and they have never had a problem.

I'm in Maplewood. I don't know much about the schools though.. My kids are little. There are a lot of great neighborhoods, parks,shopping... I live near the hospital, mall and library with lots of trails to walk too. I like it because it's quiet...not too much "action" around here!

I grew up in Centerville and graduated from Centennial... it is an awesome district, I highly recommend it.
We will be living in Maplewood (starting on Wednesday!), and are hoping to open enroll our kids in to the Mahtomedi district once they start school since Maplewood is part of the North St. Paul district and I haven't heard the greatest reviews. Mahtomedi was recently ranked the number one school in the state.
White Bear Lake is also a nice town to live in, and is where we plan to eventually purchase our first home. Everything is close by and it only takes about 15 minutes to get to St Paul, and about 25 to get to Minneapolis.

I love Blaine. DS goes to Northpoint Elementry, it's a newer school and he and I both love it. His teacher is amazing (of course this is his first year there, so that could change next year ). We plan to buy a bigger house within the next 2 years and if at all possible we will stay in Blaine.
