My niece is 15 months, my nephew is 3 yrs. This is my BIL's kids. They are going on a "mini-vacay" without kids up north and they asked us to watch their kids. Fine. I am looking forward to it, excited. I have been e-mailing back & forth w/ my SIL to correspond w/ her. This is happening next week Thurs. night-Sunday pm. So Friday I am by myself w/ them. The boy is not potty trained, they both nap, wake up early. These ages will be a change for me or culture shock if you will b/c my kids are: 6, 8. I have basic things for them: food, pack & play, lots of toys, wipes, booster, potty seat cover, little step stools, wagon.
can anyone give me any tips or pointers or words of advice?
Last time the nephew stayed w/ us he was younger, he didn't have a sibling then, she brought food, toys, he was super picky for food.
Thanks.

How nice of you! I hope it's a fun time!
I think having as many of their familiar toys and things as are practical is great.
Think about any breakables or chokables you might need to put out of reach.
Getting outside to your yard, or a playground could be a great way to run off some energy.
Coffee for those early mornings. For you of course.

Do they have a bedtime/naptime routine? I know DS is flexible except for that routine. Also, is your nephew still a picky eater? If so, maybe some ideas from SIL about easy food for him to eat. If you need a break, just let me know, we can meet up and I can bring DS to play with your nephew somewhere. DS would love it!

I experienced the same thing last weekend when helping my SIL with her kids. It is really different when you have kids a bit older and go back to taking care of a 15 month old and a 3 year old.
I would just remember the key is patience. Have some plans but be super flexible and go with the flow.
We always have DS put his little legos and other choking hazards away in a spot that our nephew can't reach and move all breakables. DS was a very cautious toddler and my nephew is the opposite. We love having DS spend time with our niece and nephews even though it is extra work!

Slufoot I will have to remember that.
Coffee might need to do that. SIL gave me some go to meals if he doesn't eat what the rest of us eat. I am making meals I think young kids will like. I have been trying to "kid/baby" proof my house. The visiting family (little ppl) are going to sleep in ds's room, ds and dd will sleep together (seperate spots) in dd's room. The nephew is going to sleep in his own sleeping bag. I think I am going to "help" (do) ds's room so that all is little things that these 2 little ppl would touch are not in sight or put away.

Ok the niece & nephew come tomorrow night. Fine. I am pretty much ready for them. Kids are excited (mine). We are still hashing out the sleeping arrangements for them. My kids are sleeping in ds's room. Only minor problem my BIL's kids have never slept together in the same room. What would U do? Ds doesn't want to give up his room. Dd is ok w/ giving up her room. dd will sleep in a fort so she says in ds's room. Ds doesn't want to give up his room b/c he is 9, he has lots of things, a lot of smallish things.

I would have your niece and nephew in one room. They'll be fine.
When we are with my niece and nephews we just make do with the space we have and they always adjust.

Update: Had the niece & nephew over. Things went really well. It was fun. Had lots of snuggle time w/ the younger one. I love kids. I rocked her to sleep or she would cry LOTS to sleep we tried that the 1st night. Sat. the kids slept til 8:30 and they usually wake up like clockwork at 6:30 every day. Sunday my niece woke at 3:45 though she took a cat nap for 45 min. Yes, they slept in the same room. My kids slept in the same room in forts. They ate 2 breakfasts. The BIL gave us a gc for a restaurant, beer dh likes, a alchol drink I like.
