Me, my daughter, my son were at Family Free Open swim through com. ed. in PL. Fine. We were having a good & fun time til my dd & I went to play a game w/ group of others that were there. It was if you were 6 and under you swim out to the duck w/ a noodle (in our case w/ me b/c she didn't want to use a noodle). We got there first. Well once we got there I couldn't do anything or go anywhere. I had her wrist. She was under water she came up coughing then crying. A swim instructor had to help me get back to where I could touch. We left w/ her crying. She got a prize, a sucker. She wanted me to snuggle w/ her b4 we could dry off, go. I felt so helpless. She said I scrated her. I felt so bad. I think we both were scared. I felt a tiny bit dumb b/c I needed help.

So sorry, Jodi, that sounds very frightening! Well, that's why they have life guards, and don't beat yourself up. If you both can't touch because it's too deep that would be a panic-inducing situation ... YIKES. Hope you're doing OK and have recovered.

Jodi- I am sorry you had such a scary situation. Swimming is very fun, but can turn frightening very quickly. I am glad you are both okay.
I would encourage you though to try and take your daughter swimming again soon. Talk through safe swimming practices and show her how fun it is, you don't want her to be too afraid to try again. My son had a situation where he went under during swim lessons and he was very frightened (understandably) but I took him swimming 2x that week before his next lesson just to remind him and show him that the water is fun. He still remembers his scare, but loves the water and we process what happened every once in a while as a reminder about water safety.

Thanks gals. It was a fun time out w/ my kiddos. Maybe one of the next few days I will have to take the kids to the Y before swim lessons on Monday pm.
