I received some cash gifts for my graduation and am considering an electronic device to serve as an e-reader. We have a "family" iPad but let's be honest and realize it is really for 1) DH & 2) DS. I love to read and have thought about an e-reader for awhile, but could never justify the expense. Since I have money that is supposed to be spent on just me and not anyone else I am strongly considering an e-reader (and a massage).
Any personal recommendations, pros/cons on Kindle, Nook or iPad mini?
Thanks!

Tina has an iPad and loves it. She reads on it a ton, and loves that she can check out ebooks from the library and they return themselves when due. But I'm guessing any ereader does that. She also uses it for calendar, contacts, email, web browsing, games, etc. So it's much more than an e-reader.
I don't use it much and I don't have any experience with other ereaders.
Have fun deciding! What a great way to celebrate!

I'm in love with my kindle fire HD... the larger screened one. When I was out of a computer, I was able to function solely with this. Don't know what I'd do without it... especially for reading.. and games!!!

I am in love with my ipad mini! My kindle fire was always slow and kept freezing on me....hated it after awhile. I was able to transfer all my books from my kindle to the kindle app on my ipad. I am able to webcam with family and not have to sit in one spot....I just love it! I rarely get on the desktop anymore since getting it because I can do most things on the ipad. Highly recommend it.

Jrose- how heavy is the iPad mini. Can you comfortably read a book? I don't like how heavy the iPad is, so looking for something a little lighter.

I have a nexus 7, it is great, and not over priced like the iPad mini. Nor is it locked like the kindle fire. There is a kindle app and the nook app. Plus internet, calender, e-mail and more. Plus it easily fits in a larger purse.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tablet and I absolutely love it!! It's light, and you can do everything on it. I watch netflix, read, play games, browse the web etc. The really nice thing about it is since its an android, you're not limited to certain websites, apps and games like you are with a kindle or iPad. Even better...its cheaper too!!

Thanks for all the input ladies.
I am not at all into electronics. DH thinks I should get the iPad mini since we already have an iPad and that way things can be shared on both devices. I am still having a hard time with parting with that kind of $$ because I am not 100% convinced I would use it enough and don't want it to turn into another device for DS. But if I get a new job, my work laptop goes away and it would be nice to have something to connect to the internet that is more portable.

You'll use it... I find my kindle fire is great for relaxing in bed at night... that's when I tend to use it most. Preston asks to use it and I say no.. this one is mommy's... no exceptions lol

I agree, a 16gb nexus 7 is $150, 32gb $200. DH and I had talked about getting an iPad mini for the kids, but it is too expensive. Plus, we don't feel that the kids need that kind of exposure.
