I have never used an insect repellent on the kids, but this summer seems to be the worst I can remember for mosquitos. I get big the second I step outside... and fear that my both kids are going to end up that way too. The first case of west nile virus popped up in MN, and the person is recovering.
What brand or products do you use that CONSISTENTLY work to keep mosquitos away... for kids. and is Ella too young at almost 11 months? I'm hopeless so I drink vinegar and say a prayer lol

We use the herbal armor because it's DEET free and seems to work well for DS. I still get bit through clothing, but where I've applied it there are no bites.

When I know we're going to be in major mosquito territory, I use Off or another brand labeled "Family" in the hope that it's less chemical-filled, but ... I don't know. It seems like my kids get bit no matter what we do, the mosquitos LOVE them. (Sigh.)

I think the dangers of mosquito born illness is greater than the risk of occasional use of bug spray.
I'd use the powerful stuff when necessary and make sure to bathe them so it doesn't stay on their skin longer than necessary.

I think I read today that the FDA said that children can use deet products safely up to but no more than 30 percent... so I may look for something like that too, but I Don't like aerosols.. so I would need spray or wipes, preferably wipes! But I think you are right bunsy... remember that rash that I said preston had a couple weeks ago? That rash had formed over a mosquito bite, and I got one too.. but my rash over my mosquito bit was a lot bigger. If we had gone one more day w/ the rashes not improving, I would've taken us both in to see a doc... especially since P also had a fever and complained that his head hurt! Symptoms of West Nile.. but I didn't want to jump to conclusions and freak out. Its rare to get it, and most people who do, never have a problem... so I am still not sure. Both rashes and bites are gone now though!

I really like the clip on off things. Keeps the bugs away and I don't have the slimy feeling of bug spray. I can clip it to the back of DS2's pants and he doesn't bother it either.

I bought the clip on to try at the lake in a couple of weeks and a MosquitNo wrist band for DS to buy. I do buy regular spray with DEET that is for family - I have a deep woods and a regular one.

I just bought a Cutter family one that was Deet free at Walmart. They had aerosol and spray. Worked great and we smelled like vanilla!!! I guess using vanilla keeps them away too! Not sure if it's essential oils or the cooking version, lol!
