I'm really nervous about my daughter starting preschool, you know it's that whole.. my baby is going out into the world without mom or dad thing. Whats really making me nervous is the bus situation. From what I understand she gets on the bus with all the other kids in the morning and just goes into the school with them... How will she know where to go, what will stop her from getting lost? The preschool teacher said she'd be out there but there is a big group of kids and I don't have faith she's going to recognize and grab all of her preschoolers. If she goes to the afternoon preschool class it'll be different because she won't be riding there with the rest of the kids but she doesn't do as well in the afternoon as she does in the morning. So tell me your experience with having your child take the bus in preschool.. soothe my fears! I can't drive her for the first month because I'll be at work with the car before she goes to school.

Most of the time, at least at DS' school, the teachers are waiting outside when the bus comes and they help them with where to go and make sure they get to the right class, on the right bus, etc.
Did your school send you any little 'ID' cards? When DS started Kindergarten they mailed us an ID card and a plastic case that we attached to his backpack. It had his name, bus number & pick up/drop off times on it. It also had my phone number. If they didn't send you one you could probably make one pretty easily. I thought it was nice!

I think I will make one of those cards if they don't give me one. It is probably just me but it seems so weird for 4 year olds to be getting on and off school buses without adults. I want someone to hold me kids hand from point A to point B! Mom problems.

DS starts kindergarten tomorrow and we got a bus ID card that they told us to put in a baggie and attach to the outside of the backpack. His teacher will wait for all her students outside for the first 2 days and then slowly they work their way into meeting her in the school and eventually the classroom. I figure that she's done this for years and DS will catch on. We've been practicing his bus # just to be sure.

DD1 just started kindergarten but they sent her an ID card as well. I was so nervous I sent DH there to the school to make sure everything went smoothly. He said the teachers were all out there waiting for the students. I still have a little anxiety over it but hubs reassured me everything is ok. I know for her preschool I always saw the teachers there getting the kids off and on the bus and most only had a few kids to watch over and everything always seemed to go smoothly!

I keep telling myself.. they've got to know how to handle this. It's really in the schools best interest to make sure every kids gets to where they are supposed be, safely. Right?
