Can anyone give me advice on how to relieve them...even a little? I'm just assuming its a migraine. Monday AF arrived and I could feel a headache coming on, no big deal I will just take tylenol. Didn't help it got worse through out the day to the point where I had to call DH to come home for a few hours to take care of the kids because every movement I made was making me sick to my stomach and the head throbbing was horrible. Tuesday it was really dull but I could function. Last night it came back and was still here this morning, I finally got out of bed at 11 took 3 tylenol and that seemed to help this time. The only other time I had a migraine like this was a few months ago during AF but that only lasted a day and nothing was helping get rid of it. I don't want to go through what I did on Monday if it does decide to get triggered again by next AF...so any advice?

I've had migraines since my DS was born. I would get them right around the time AF would show up... in fact that's how I knew I was going to be getting it was by the migraine that preceeded it. Anyway, I started out by taking extra strength tylenol. When that stopped working I moved on to Excedrin Migraine. I talked to my OBGYN about the headaches and she put me back on the pill to see if controlling the hormones would help. It did for a couple of months but then I started getting them more frequently - not just before AF. She then put me on Seasonique so I would only get AF 4 times a year. By that time though I was having migraines most of the month and not just before AF. I then went to my GP doctor and he put me on Propranolol (Inderal) and that has helped tremendously. I still get a few migraines, but not nearly as often or as severe. When I do get a severe one it will last for 3-4 days and nothing helps. Just resting in a dark room.
I'd say try the Excedrin Migraine and see how that works for you. If it helps great!! If it doesn't, make an appointment now with your doctor and talk to him/her about it. Even if the Excedrin Migraine works, I'd mention it at your next doctor appointment.
Hope you get some relief!!

DH uses a superhot bath submerging up to his neck. Then put ice pack on forehead. It confuses the nerves.
That was ONE of his methods.
If it continues, a preventative med can help. Taking it BEFORE the headache starts can short circuit the headache.

I used to take Imetrex but it made me SO sick to my stomach I now take Maxalt (by Rx only) because Excederine Migraine doesn't work for me anymore. Mine can be hormone induced and the key is to treat it BEFORE it gets bad. My doctor explained that the blood vein contracts and it's not until it starts to release that the throbbing starts and by that time it's too late. If you can't treat it in time, cool packs on the head where it hurts, medication, quiet, dark, and sleep. Good luck!

Excedrine, rag over your eyes in a completely darkened room, zero noise and prayer....that's what works for me. I get them so bad I dry heave...I would throw up but I am physically incapable of expelling vomit, tmi sorry. I too see an increase in migraine quantity and quality(lol) before aunt flo

I second the Excedrine Migraine medicine with coffee or caffeine drink... then follow up with a chiropractor. if that doesn't work then go to your GP... lots of people take imitrex, TH gets the generic version for his migraines. Yup.. that's me. I also take amitryptaline for preventative, too. At one point, I was up to 3 migraines a week. I've also had a few this past week... weather perhaps? You should really see a Dr though, cuz I can't beLIEVE how much they were screwing me up.

I used to get them SO FAST I had to go to bed and make the kids bring me an Imitrex. Sup, you should REALLY see your Dr.... Imitrex and Amitryptalin has been a GOD SEND for me.

I can only deal with it with some ibuprofen because all the migraine meds contain caffiene... one of my triggers. It rarely gets bad, but I make sure to take the ibuprofen as soon as I feel it starting or it can get bad or last for a week. Since I never have caffiene in my diet those good drugs aren't good for me. Oh and many times I can't lie down or try to sleep, that makes them worse too. Hopefully your dr can help you with something, mine couldn't because all he'd do is write a prescription for the good drugs... but once again, caffiene is not my friend.

I'm 32 and had my first migraine in 5th grade. I get sick and throw up with most of them. An ice pack on the forehead or back of the neck does wonders for me, and a dark, quiet room. I've also heard that soaking your feet in a hot tub of water helps draw the blood to your feet, not your head. I've tried it once or twice and it did help, might have just been the relaxation of it all too! Frequent visits to the chiropractor also help. And I'll second all the Execdrin migraine suggestions! Good luck and keep us updated! Migraines suck!!

I don't get migraines but I do suffer from constant headaches. and I mean constant! I would get them every single day, all day long, and by the time they stopped I was taking up to 15 tylenol a day. Definitely not good!
My mom suggested that I start taking magnesium and within 2 days the headaches were completely gone. I don't know if they would take away your migraines completely but they may at least relieve some of the pain.
Also, like other posters have said excedrin migraine is great.
