Hi everyone. My best friend just had her second baby, prematurely. She was only 25 weeks along. The baby is so very tiny. The most ironic thing is, this is her second child, her first one was born premature as well, at 27 weeks. She lives in TX so it's hard for me to help from here. I'm looking for ideas on what to send her. I have two kids myself and know that food/meals are always the most helpful, and that's usually what I give new parents. However, kind of hard to send a pan of lasagna to TX!!
I first thought of a gift certificate from a restaurant near her home that delivers, but then thought delivery with a gift cert. could be tricky. I really want to do something that will help them. Juggling their time and energy between their new little one at the hospital and their other child at home will be very hard.
Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks!

Do they have anything like "Let's Dish" down there? There are options for that to be made for you and delivery or pick up.

Do they have a grocery store that delivers?

I agree with the food idea -- it just makes it easier. My friend got us Omaha steaks … I'm not sure what the packages run but it had a variety of meats and side dishes (if your friend's not vegetarian). Otherwise a grocery store that delivers is a good idea, most stores have deli items, soups, frozen meals, other items that are really nice to have on hand when you have a new baby and crazy life.

Is anyone(family/friends) down there coordinating a meal train for them that you could join in on?
What about a package for the other child to keep them busy for trips to the hospital, etc?

My niece was born at 26 weeks. She has since passed but my sister said she really appreciated gift cards to restaurants right by the hospital. She also just really appreciated a basket I brought to her for the long days in the nicu. I packed it full of snacks, magazines, sudoku books, and a travel DVD player with a few of our favorite movies. She said it helped pass the time when my niece was sleeping.

I agree with Ballerina. DS2 spent 2 weeks in the NICU. Having snacks or books or something to help pass the time while I was there was wonderful. Can you call the hospital and see if you can get a gift card to the hospital cafeteria for her.
