My 10 yr old has developed really bad acne this year! She washes her face every night! She also has very oily hair. We have tried a few different products.
Do I just keep trying to find a product that works for her?
Should I take her to a dermatologist?
I hate that she has to deal with this at such a young age! DH had super bad acne as a teen and still has super oily skin/hair. Thanks for your help!

I would take her to a dermatologist. I am so glad my parents did when I was a teenager, it saved scaring that my dad has on his face and made me feel more confident. Before I went to the dermatologist I tried tons of OTC acne treatment and nothing worked great. Hopefully the dermatologist has good recommendations, especially for a young person on the right cleansers. As an adult I used Proactiv (in my early 20's) and it worked well, but stained (bleached) things. What finally fixed my acne issue was pregnancy --- but wouldn't recommend that for your DD for 20 years

I'd take her to see someone. That is young to start the struggle and I would want to take the best path possible. Good luck.

I agree, at this age to see a dermatologist! Could what she's using on her face be causing it? Sorry to your little lady as if it's not hard enough being in the double digits these days!!

I think her winter hat and sweating outside at recess is making it worse!
I did try a new product that made it worse so we went back to what she was using.
Thanks Ladies! I really want to get a good start on controlling it so I will get her to a dermatologist.

For the oily hair try a dry shampoo. My favorite is Batiste. Another one I just discovered that works well is the new herbal essence dry shampoo.
I agree with others to see a dermatologist. 10 seems young to have that all start?

It might seem general, but has she tried proactiv? My mom bought some for my brother (he's suffered from acne for years) and when he uses it, it works really well for him.
But I agree with the others who say a dermatologist is a good idea.

Thanks for the dry shampoo ideas!!! I wanted to make my own off of Pinterest but didn't get around to it.
Proactiv is on the list to try!
