We're just starting to think about choosing a middle school. Do you know know of any great ones in our area that should make our list?
Some of our criteria -
Public, Charter or Private with great financial aid Strong Arts curriculum, especially visual arts Strong academics A culture of inclusiveness and appreciation for diversity: Not Christian pushing, not homophobic, not pushing gender stereotypes, etc Good support for kids with learning disabilities
On our radar so far: Linwood, Avalon, Friends School, FAIR, Upper Mississippi Academy

The only one I am familiar with is Linwood, because a volunteer group I work with used to do things with Linwood.
A few years ago it was a positive situation. But I don't have a lot to go off of.
Good luck in your search.

My cousin's kids go to Saint Paul Academy (they do receive financial aid) and LOVE it. They couldn't be happier with the teachers and the culture there. BUT … I know it's expensive and I'm unsure how they figure out financial aid. That's the only St Paul school I know because I live on the west side of town. Best of luck to you in your search process!!

Thanks! I do think SPA is out of our reach, but I'll have to find out more and not just assume.

Holy Cow that's like sending your kids to college …. for 13 years … Thank goodness my cousin's kids get financial aid!!! (Both parents work, they are very "middle - middle class" but I realize that most of the classmates' parents have very high-paying jobs!). The funny thing is, they only started going to SPA because my cousin's oldest is very cerebral (likes chess) and she knew that if he went to the local school he'd get beat up and bullied. (She has a teaching background.)

I was looking at the financial aid... seeing how the percentages were based on income and if you make about 70000 to 100,000 dollars a year, it's like 23ish percent for FA. Still pretty pricey!

Yeah. We can cross that off the list.
