What do you think is the best age to start piano lessons? I started piano when I was a second grader, so that's what I'm thinking for my DD. But these days it seems like the "norm" to start earlier. Any ideas? What's worked for your kids? Thanks!

It completely depends on the style of lessons. "Old school" teachers like to wait until kids can read, sit still, follow instructions, etc. The newer style teachers will start them younger with listening exercises, singing, etc.
My kids started in 1st grade with an amazing teacher who first had them listen, then sing, then gave them the keys to play the song--all before starting to actually teach notes. They learned a lot of MUSIC besides just piano.

I started in first grade. When I was a teacher, I started the kids on the recorder in second grade.

A couple months ago I asked our accompianist at church who teachs piano the same question. She said she likes to start kids in second grade or around age 8. She said it's great if they're able to sit for 30 minutes and if they can read.

I'm an elementary music teacher and piano teacher and also recommend 1st or 2nd grade depending on their reading skills and maturity.
