I'm sure everyone or most have heard about this already... what are your thoughts? It's hard for me not to blame the parents.. or lack of parental involvement and discipline! Legally, how do you go about this?? Can they really be tried as adults? I feel for the young girl that was stabbed.... how awful to be lured by supposed friends and then attacked. Obviously this was planned... or premeditated as the law would say. AWFUL! I'm officially disturbed. www.kare11.com/story/news/crime/2014/06/02/12-year-old-girls-held-in-murder-plot/9870969/

Disturbed is right. For me, it's hard to believe that two TWELVE YEAR OLD girls could do something as horrendous as this. The fact that the girl lived is just incredible.
I agree though, it's hard to not look at the parents and say "WHAT THE HELL!!!!" It'd be interesting to find out how they were raised, how much time they spent in front of the TV and video games, etc.
As far as being tried as adults...I say if you've literally planned out killing a person, you should be tried as an adult. If you don't know at the age of 12 that killing someone is NOT ok nor is it humane, well, you'll learn that fast then won't you sitting behind bars with a bunch of other people who are just as crazy and demented as you!

I read it online about an hour ago. Seriously made me sick to my stomach. How does one end up like this at TWELVE years old!?
I also agree that they should be tried as adults. They knew exactly what they were doing and planned it out. It is hard for me not to say "where were the parents??" as well, however, I know some good parents that unfortunately just had kids that did really bad things. Sometimes it's just out of the parents control.

Apryll, I totally understand too..sometimes there are just those "bad eggs" no matter what you do to help them be "good" kids. However, the fact that there were two girls who were involved make me think it may have been more of a parenting issue from both of the girls.

I hate to speculate about it, or judge, but it really REALLY is disturbing to read things like this, especially when you have a child who is not far from that age.

One thing I heard aout this was that (if) tried as adults they will not get the mental health treatment that they obviously need (it does not happen for adults-- they are lucky if they get their prescribed psych meds in jail). I am not saying that tried as juveniles would be a good thing, but it would get them mental health treatment-- now whether or not this would be benficial at this point is unknown. Maybe jail is the correct place, maybe a security hospital with a mandatory length stay may be better? I don't know

My husband, who has known someone who has had long stays in pediatric psych facilities thinks they would probably admit them somewhere like that, or a juvenile detention center long term til they are 16 or 18 and then have them finish out their sentence in prison.

Premeditated murder, to me... shows that these girls knew what they were doing. I think they need some Sense knocked into them , more than they need psych treatment

Wow what a horrible, tragic, messed up situation. Crazy. On the one hand, I feel like … 12 years old is so young! Kids' brains don't develop and mature until much later and they really don't have the mental facilities that adults do. BUT … the the story is just so scary--luring someone to their death??? Messed. UP.
