I commented on your FB post. I think this is spot on.
My son tends toward shyness when I am around, when I keep an eye out from a distance he is much more confident and willing to try new things. I try yo encourage this.

Once when we had a couple of people over Ian was climbing a tree. He was getting pretty high and this one woman just got so nervous and started sort of scolding me for letting him do it and said he was going to fall and break a bone. I told her that sometime he might fall and might break and bone. And that would be sad. But that it would be FAR sadder if he never climbed a tree. She shut up.

I think I need to lighten up MYSELF. Others don't usually do it to DS, because I'm bad about it lol I tend to be really overprotective and always worry about something happening to him. SO is always telling me to let him be and that he'll be fine.
