On Langston's fifth birthday, he had his first concussion. He rode the Pepsi Streak at the MOA over 30 times (and I am not exaggerating). I noticed several lumps on his head, but was not concerned because he didn't find them to be painful. That night...all of the tale tell signs of a concussion appeared, and we found ourselves in the ER at 2:00 a.m. I don't think that I have been to the MOA since, but it hasn't been out of fear....just caution.
As always, we have had our season passes to Valleyfair. All summer....no issues! Yesterday, we went with some friends with kids ages (3, 8, 10, 12, 16, and 29)....yes, the 29 year old is a kid! Because he had others to ride with (not me!) he ventured on to the XTreme Swing, Wild Thing, and Renegade. He enjoyed them all! But, after riding the Renegade, he appeared with a bump on his head again. Awww...snap. I can't keep him from riding roller coasters, but I can't let him keep hitting his head. I already had plans to go to MOA on Friday (anybody wanna join us?), but I am extremely cautious. I think that I will be requiring him to wear a skateboarding helmet on any roller coasters that he chooses to ride. But, I have never seen any other kids do it. Am I being a bit extreme?
I haven't talked to him about it yet...but I don't think that he will object. While he enjoyed the Renegade yesterday...he did not like the lump on his head.

I don't think it is extreme since you have had issues before. Sadly however he will get weird looks with the helmet on. IMO it's a grand idea to wear a helmet!

I would not do a helmet. he might get made fun of and then feel bad and be mad at you! tell himto keep his head against the seat firm untill the ride is over...
