As some of you may know, my 3 1/2 yr old son is a non-eater. However, he loves to drink through his hunger. I recently got a blender and am looking for healthy smoothie recipes. They obviously have to be sweet otherwise he won't drink them! Also, I'm wondering if anyone has any advice or suggestions on what kind of extra nutrients I can add in? (like protein powders, etc.) Thanks much!

I put a little milk, some fresh fruit, and a packet of Carnation instant breakfast (adds some sugar, but nutrition too-- protein and B vitamins) Both DD and DS like them, Bananas strawberries, other raspberries, cut up peach. I try to use stuff that is still good, but does not look appealing enough for them to want to eat yet--browning bananas, bruised fruit, etc.

Greek yogurt may be good to add too as that is high in protein too

Mmm sounds yummy! This is a totally stupid question (bear with me!), but you add ice too, right?

Sometimes I do, but not all the time-- just add only a little milk and the fruit will keep it thick. My DD even likes just banana in the blender-- I make don't want to have to clean the blender if that's all it is since she is 10 I don't feel I should do the extra clean-up for just mashed fruit. I try to make sure to put milk and Carnation in it. Sometimes she want 2-3 ice cubes, but usually don't even add that.

I use frozen fruit (target seems to have a pretty selection) and add milk, but I like my smoothies thick. For myself I will add flax seed as well. My kids love them.

Irish I just started being a distributor for Body by Vi and it is actually a protein type shake mix with a TON of nutrients. If it is something you are interested in looking at check out my site: katienelson2011.bodybyvi.com/it is safe for kids to have one shake a day. They say too much protein isn't good. With the mix I have a list of over 100 recipes you can make with it. For example today I had a snickers shake. There are sweet shakes or dessert type shakes. My kids love the shakes and I don't mind making them for them because I know they get some good nutrition in each day. One shake has the following nutrients: Vitamin E equals 1.5 cups Chopped Broccoli Vitamin D & Protein equals 13 Whole Eggs Vitamin A equals 5 Medium Peaches Vitamin B12 equals 2.5 Chicken Breasts Calcium (Shake mix without milk) equals 1.5 cups Frozen Yogurt Magnesium equals 1.5 cups Bran Flakes Vitamin B6 equals 18 oz.Tomato Juice Folic Acid equals 1.5 cups Shredded Romaine Lettuce Zinc equals 5 oz. Cheddar Cheese Niacin equals 3 cups Cooked Lima Beans Pantothenic Acid equals 15 Slices Whole Wheat Bread Riboflavin equals 20 Spears of Asparagus Selenium equals 1 cup Brown Rice Copper equals 2 cups Sliced Mushrooms Chromium equals 30 Apples Manganese equals 5 cups Chopped Celery Molybdenum equals 3.5 Medium Tomatoes Digestive Enzymes equals 3 Pineapples Fiber equals 30 Prunes

I put Juice Plus powder in DS's. It is kinda spendy but I love knowing it is healthy for him on the days he does not eat. I add sberries, raspberry, banana, spinach and any fruit I have on hand. I occasionally mix it with frozen yougurt OR those pedisure drink things. Juice Plus was recommened by my PED and we have used it ever since. We do the powder occasionally and a chewy everyday. Check out juice plus!
