As many of you know, my family consists of just Langston and me. The grandparents and auntie live in different states, so Thanksgiving isn't a travelling kind of holiday. Most Thanksgivings are spent with just the two of us....and that is fine.
Issue #1...due to the nature of my job, I work 65+ hours a week mid October through December, I do not exactly want to host a meal.
Issue #2....I have so many allergies, I don't really want to go to any one's home.
We tried going out to eat last year...but I felt so incomplete.
Do you have any suggestions for Thanksgiving Day traditions that we can begin in our little family?!? (they don't have to be food related)

Pretty mellow at our house too. We have dinner and what not with the fam, but nothing crazy.
Maybe go out to a movie? Or instead of going to someone else's house go out to eat together just the two of you?

Could you volunteer to serve at the food shelf or a soup kitchen? We did that one year as a family and it was amazing. We are so blessed it felt good to give to others.

I agree with the volunteering. Our family is going to try that this year, and I am hoping it is the beginning of our new tradition!
There is a restaurant near our house that serves 3000 free meals each Thanksgiving. We are going there to serve for a few hours. I am very excited to do this...I am truly hoping it's the first of many years we do this together as a family.

I love the parade! As a kid I always watched it on TV. These days we often don't get to just because of scheduling with family, but if I were on my own, I would definitely sit in my pj's and enjoy it before I did whatever else.

We go shopping at Kmart in the morning, then we spend time at home until we go to my moms for dinner.

I would find a sports bar/restaurant and watch a football game while having a meal.

There are many things you can do. We do go out to eat with dh's fam and I love it. Then we go back to his great aunts house for dessert and an evening snack later as well. We have also put up the Christmas tree on that day. You could just hang out at home and play games.....there were also several years that we would go to Kmart and do some shopping on that day.

I agree with the volunteering part, although he may be too young? ?
OR.. go to a Senior Center and visit with folks- place games- etc. . then end the day with a movie!

My husband works most holidays so Thanksgiving day is usually Charlie and I sitting at home flipping channels, playing outside, doing the normal everyday things too. It just hit me last year while Charlie and I were eating leftovers, my family members are on the east coast enjoying each other and I kind of feel left out or lonely around the holidays. You are a tough woman to do it year round. I grew up with a single mom, it was tough watching her but she did it.
I don't have anything for you, sorry. But I do love to cook so if you ever want a home cooked meal, look me up

Maybe you could Skype with some relatives at some point and all talk about what you're thankful for this year.
