I just started looking at getting my son a potty chair. I know he's not ready yet, but I'd like to get one sooner than later and at least have him used to seeing the potty chair for when he is ready. Plus, when he is ready, I already have one. What potty chairs have you liked? Are there any that you haven't liked?

I used the ones that you put right on the toilet seat. DD loved it cause then she was using the same potty as Mommy.

We got the elmo potty chair that you high five after you go. I know silly. We were told to get one in each b-room. So after spending all that money on 3 pottys we realized why would we teach ds to go on that but then to later teach him he needs to go on the big boy potty. Kinda confusing for them, especially out in public IMO. We have a padded foam seat in every bathroom now so it is easy for him to go in any b-room, as I choose not to carry it around the house.

Agreed Love. Why add that extra step they don't really need to go through?? Just my opinion.

So then you just get a step stool?

We bought a portable seat and DS sat on it a few times but never used it. He picked out a Cars padded seat that goes on top of a regular toilet. We just have one (and 2 bathrooms) and we move it if necessary although now he can sit without it if we help him. At daycare he uses a separate potty chair and does just fine.
If you have him pick it out he might be more interested - that's what worked for DS finally (and it's easy to transport to grandparents, etc)

to answer your question about the step stool - yes, we bought a step stool for him, but for the most part we would go help him and set him on the potty. Now that he is a little older and more independent he uses the stool. We don't bring the step stool with us when we travel and just help him on and off
