I am not a mom of multiples, but my cousin is carrying identical twin girls - due in March. Apparently twin A is doing great, but twin B is having some trouble. I don't know all the details, but they are trying to figure out if it's a placenta problem or twin to twin transfusion syndrome, or something else. She is undergoing more tests this week and next week, but if twin B doesn't start doing better - my cousin might have to deliver them at 24 weeks, which is about a month from now. I was wondering if anyone has been thru this or knows someone who has delivered this early and had a positive outcome. I'm very worried for her and her babies!

Oh how scary for them! Some friends of mine just found out yesterday that their twins are girls (not identical, though) and we were just talking about how nerve wracking it is with all of the ultrasounds they will be having (and already have) if they found out something is wrong. Prayers for your cousin and her babies!

A friend of mine's wife delivered her baby boy at 24 weeks. He spent roughly 18 weeks in The nicu at st. Mary's in Rochester and has now been home for about 2 months and is doing great! The first few weeks were rough but things got better. You can check out his caring bridge site if you would like. www.caringbridge.org/visit/gavinrosenberg.

My sister had her twins at 30 weeks. They were in the NICU for about two months. It was difficult for awhile, but now they are completely normal, healthy two year olds.

Oh, forgot to mention, my dd was born at 30 weeks. She is now 22 months old and right on track with all of her development!

Is she in bed rest yet? My twins were not identical, and I went to term. But I have heard of serious problems with twin to twin transfusion regardless of how many weeks they are delivered at. Moms expecting twins DO NOT want to hear these types of stories. Get a tour of the NICU, prepare for early delivery and accept all the support from family and friends you can get.

I agree with Sarastwins. I remember during my pregnancy my dr had me completely freaked out because my ds was bigger than my dd. Told me if that didn't start to change IMMEDIATELY they would have to take the babies. I was completely freaked out. Thank goodness dd started to show that she was growing right along with ds and I went to almost 37 weeks.
I think that sometimes the dr's need to make us aware of things that could be happening so that nobody is shocked if it were to happen. I will keep her in prayer and please keep us posted on how it turns out.

Update - the doctors think there are 2 problems - twin to twin transfusion syndrome AND placental inequality. So, she has to go to Cincinatti next week for a laser surgery to help with the twin to twin syndrome. It won't help the placental inequality. I've read that this surgery helps 60% of the time. Please keep her and her babies in your thoughts!
