Well, after throwing $400 into a dishwash that was under 3 years old and the SECOND dishwasher in our new house, we said SCREW IT... It was a $$$ dishwasher to start with... I told Dan to go find the cheapest DW he could and buy that... it was $79 more than the repair on the one that was broken.
Wash machine... Should have tossed that piece of crap out the door after the first repair. Two repaird in less that 6 years. The second time, I was told the $$ to replace parts and repair would be over $400. I told him that was rediculous and I could buy a new washer for that price. Dan found the part on line for $55 and to over night ship was $25. Dan fixed it on his own and it took him less than an hour.
I am DONE investing in high end appliances... I will buy the bottom $ from now on... cuz they are ALL WORTHLESS...
Ya think you struck a chord with me, Lil!!! LOL!!! you know how much trouble I've had....

We usually try to fix everything we can, I sew and hubby is good with electronics, a good friend works on cars and my dad and BIL are handymen, but sometimes the investment to repair isn't worth it and we buy new.

We try to fix things as much as we can but if we need to we buy a new one. I can't even tell you how many times we've had to fix our car. I've completely lost count. Ugh We're FINALLY fed up with fixing the POS and looking for a new one! Yay!

Uggghhhh don't get me started on dishwashers. I've been washing dishes by hand for the past 3 weeks.. and there is not ANY chore I hate more than handwashing dishes!
I tend to be a buyer, but hubby is a fixer, so we usually meet in the middle. If something is broken he'll fix it once or twice and then I say its time to buy new one!

We try to fix whatever we can fix. DH is really good with cars and fixing things around the house. I try to sew what I can. I have done surgery on stuffed animals and broken seems on shirts and even pillows. I try to make whatever we buy last as long as we can get it to last. Like our microwave! LOL the plate doesn't turn anymore but it is still heating up food and I can't really afford a new one so we still use it and crossing my fingers we can get it to last until next summer. Our computer has been fixed by friends but is now on it's last legs too so we are going to have to purchase another one....again hopefully next summer.

Well, DH likes to fix everything we can and keep it for millions of years. I, on the other hand, would just like to buy new. Most of our things are hand me downs, washer and dryer, all our furniture, etc. Now DH's car used to be his gma's car. It is 17 years old and we just put $800 into it and it runs like new!!

Depends on what it is. If it is something older we will usually buy a new one.

It depends on what it is as well and how much the fix is going to cost if we can't do it. If it's going to cost more to fix than what we paid for it then we usually buy a new one.
