Not sure how many people have heard about this in St. Paul-- but I used to work at the group home across the street and was waiting for the names to be released to see it I knew anyone involved-- luckily I didn't. I still cringe at what happened and that this will be something else that adds stigma to those living with a mental illness.

Of course, people will say it's from the mental illness, but miss the part that talks about smoking pot--- which may cause psychotic breaks especially in those already predisposed to it. The group home across the street houses individuals after release from State hospital and have 90 day stays--what they are referring to as "group home" where the murder took place is simply supportive housing apartments-- not staffed-- just have misc other services-- case managers and community support people visiting a few times a week.

So very tragic. Can't help but think that it could have been avoidable if there wasn't such a stigma around mental illness and if there was adequate funding to fight the disease.
