My DD cam home from school today (age 10) and only had a third of each eyebrow. She said she picked them out duroing math and couldn't stop.. She told me she has done this before, but it has never been noticeable before. She has ADD and at times can switch modds. I know at tmes she is deliberately doing this. I am hopong that she, but I also know that some of it is out of her comtrol. I figure she is having anxiety. I called my DH's EAP and got some therapist's numbers. His EAP will cover 8 sessions at 100%. I am hoping that we can get this addressed sooner rather than later. HAs anyone else had issues with this? She does very well on standardized tests (98-99%tile) What is the best way to support her during this time?

First.... talk to the teacher. perhaps the setting is what is throwing her into that mode... too quiet, too active?
But I would DEF start with the teacher! I've found myself absently pulling my eyebrows, too. Yup.. Anxiety!

DS is 8 yrs old and ever since he was a baby he has twirled hair. It started with my hair and for years that was his comfort - to just sit with me and twirl my hair. Now we have to keep his hair short because he will twirl his to the point of pulling it out. I don't have any idea how to stop this behavior, Im hoping it goes away over time if we keep his hair short. He doesn't pull his eyebrows or eyelashes out - that would be more difficult to control. I agree with talking the teacher and seeing what set off the anxiety.

She said it was math-- but she does well in math-- she is in a gifted magnet program and scores 98-99th%tile on standardized tests-- not sure why she would now find math stressful... She also has ADD and maybe she has longer problems that take longer to complete and that is why she started. SHe said she has done it before, but never to this level. Called a few places the EAP suggested and one doesn't work with EAP-- thought that was strange. One placed was closed today, and left message with another place. Hopefully I'll get something set up for her. She is willing to go.

Jessijo-- often pulling out hair is related to anxiety--it is used to relieve it-- a coping thing. Sometimes it can go away on its own and others it increases and spreads to other areas. I tried talking to her about stuff, but you know how kids are with Mom. I just went over this a few weeks/ months ago in class.

I got DD to see a therapist through DH's EAP (so no charge) and I hated her! Going to find someone else. She had preconcieved notions about DD problems that are way off! I tried giving her information that I know she would need ( as a counselor myself), but she disregarded it, took it as that I was putting pressure on her-- I told her about gifted magnet program and test scores so that she would know that it wasn't due to being bad at math-- not because I'm labeling her or putting pressure on her. It was blame the environment totally (and family) and just made me question her real competence.

My DS has ADHD and goes to a Dr. Luxem in Hasting at the Allina Clinic. We love him. He does alot of biofeedback therapy which teaches the kids to relax and calm themselves. Not sure if your ins. will cover him but we love him.
