Ok ladies, for the last 2 years I have been trying to loose weight and failing miserably. I work over nights and am always tired even with 8 or 9 hours of sleep. I need motivation I want to not be fat any more I hate feeling horrible about myself. Trying is a little harder right now cuz we don't have a stove. Just a crock pot, microwave and a electric fry pan. Oh and a blender. I do have down time to work out I have games and videos at home. I just can't seem to get off the couch to do it. Grrrr I'm lost I don't know what to do. I wish I could buy motivation at the store lol.

I don't have any advice because I am in the exact same boat as you. I even have an elliptical in my bedroom that has never been touched! I have videos but by the time I have time to do them all I really want to do is sit down and relax. I have been considering getting up 30 minutes earlier in the morning to do one of the 30 minute work outs I have on dvd.
Ok sorry for the rant lol just wanted to let you know you aren't alone!

Brandi - getting that much sleep and still being tired have you thought about having your thyroid checked? I'd start with that maybe there is a medical reason that needs to be diagnosed first.

Hi Brandi! I am in and out of this as well. One thing that really does help is using a food journal. I found this one to be my favorite. It's a great website. www.sparkpeople.comAlso, the easiest but least fun way to lose the weight is to do it right. ha ha Watch your alcohol and starchy carb intake (bread pasta etc.) Add more protein, and don't starve your self. Fruits and veggies are freebies you can have whenever you want! Don't skip meals. Water, water and more water. A lot of people misinterpret dehydration for hunger and fatigue. Just take it slow and remember that it will happen and to be patient. Take measurements, that always shows more improvement before your scale does. It's hard because you decide you can't handle it anymore and you want the weight off NOW and then two days later you want some sort of result but it will take more time. Allow yourself that time and try not to weigh yourself, judge by how you feel and how your clothes are fitting.

Brandi- I've been in the same boat. I agree w/ Gwen, get checked out first.
I decided I'm sick of being fat, too. I bought an elliptical. (It has been silent for 2 weeks, though) I created a plan, 4 ellipitcals a week, 1 walk, 1 work out swim. I managed two weeks of this schedule. Then my work schedule blew up. After 2-3 weeks, of non exercise, I tried a reduced schedule, 2 ellipitical and 1 swim. I kept up with this much better until my work schedule blew up again.
Know that YOU can do it. The first week I did 5 to 10 minutes on the elliptical. Now I can do 30 or more. Start slow. 5 to 10 minutes and build it up. Start w/ once or twice a week and build it up to more. Find things that you love to do. (I really do like to swim and walk and I "put up" with the elliptical.)
Even on my reduced schedule, I lost six pounds in six weeks. That really motivated me to do more. (I need to get back on schedule!) The best motivation, is to have someone do it with you. I swim during DD's swim lesson. Waking up early is a great way to fit it in your day, but that takes lots of self-discipline (which I don't have yet!) I wished you lived closer so we could do it together!
Good luck! Make you choice, get checked out and get advice (medically and a physical trainer of some type), and start slow, keep up with it (although expect life to interfere with your plan and don't give yourslef, too hard a time when it does.)
Sorry, so long.

Yes - get your thyroid checked first. And the food journal is a great idea. Start slowly. Try to walk 3 days a week for 30 minutes. Then add another day once you get used to that. Then try to walk a little longer. You will get more energy after you start exercising regularly. Check out myfitnesspal.com too. It helps you track what you are eating and your exercise. Get a good pair of shoes so you don't hurt yourself!

I would suggest checking with your doctor about things that could be out of your control. I recommend myfitnesspal.com to everyone! You input everything you eat and all exercise and it takes the guesswork out of figuring out how to make your body lose a pound! I've lost 92lbs in the past 14 months, so I suggest just taking a look! Good luck to you in this! I know how hard it can be.

I hear ya girl! I am the exact same way. I know part of it is because I'm not on my meds right now and I just feel totally wiped out. I weigh more now then I ever have before. I am tired of looking like a cow in everything that I wear. My cholesterol is high, now my blood sugar is low, and I am now having breathing issues. Yes I know all of that is probably contributed to my weight and if I would just get my big ass off the couch and do something I could lose the weight but I am so tired all the time. Plus I just want to relax when I get home, finish dinner, and help the boys with their homework. Then there is always cleaning, cleaning, and more cleaning to do on the weekends....which is usually mostly just Sunday because Saturday I really don't feel like doing anything.

I know everyone is mentioning the thyroid which could be....mine is borderline all the time. However, check your vitamin D....that has knocked me out more than anything, including my depression. Also I know just working nights is harder on your body and your energy level....even if you are getting eight hours of sleep.

Myfitnesspal.com also has an app that is great! It allows you to pop on and input your calories, etc. I love it!

Thanks for all the advice ladies you girls really are the best I have tried the food diary but once again I failed I have been on weight watchers that didn't work either I just can't seem to stick with anything. I get all amped up to start then after a few days I'm back on the couch thinking about what I should be doing instead of doing it. I do want to go to the doctor and see what they can do to help but I don't have any insurance. The hubby should be getting benefits in 2 months so I'll get on his then.

I was going to add that if you could have a standing date with a friend once or twice a week to work out together, that would be great. You could meet at a mall and walk (pushing strollers?), do a video together, or just act as each other's "coach." I think some support face-to-face is always a plus! Also if you're bored with your tapes, Self magazine has on-line exercises for you to try--videos showing you the moves and what not. Lifting weights/resistance training can help you burn more calories later after you're done working out.
