Have ADHD or ADD kids?
My 10 year old daughter was diagnosed about 2 years ago and I made the decision not to medicate her. It's a struggle, but I feel strongly about the overuse (potentially abuse) of these meds. I am not fully convinced about the diagnosis anyway.
So I'm interested in hearing from others on how they are handling day to day life with ADHD!

My 10 year old daughter was diagnosed a few years ago, although I had suspected it for about a year before that. We chose to do medication (I had some ADD symptoms after a car accident in grad school and found them helpful). Something a friend told me about and I check out is something called therapuetic listening. It is done with an occupational therapist (my friend is one that's how she knew about it). At DD physical last year I asked if it would be something helpful for her and she wrote referral for OT eval. She was average to above on everything but auditory processing. IT is a very passive type treatment done mostly at home. CHild has to listen to specific CDs on high grade headphones for 30 min 2x day with at least 3 hours between. They can do anything but "screen time" Every 2 weeks you change CDs and this goes for 12 weeks. The CDs have full frequency transmission (so you really do need the high quality headphones) and the different frequencies of music create new neutral pathways that improve concentration and attention. I know that the diagnosis of ADD is given much more frequently now, however I do feel that for her it is appropriate. Who diagnosed your daughter? Maybe get second opinion or re-evaluate since time has passed if you aren't confident with it as it is now. Adding structure is helpful as well as scheduling some breaks from longer tasks for movement breaks. Hope some of this was helpful
