Lice

My DD had lice for over a year. We could not get rid of them (at the time she had thick, thick, thick waist long hair). I'd spend hours and hours combing through her hair and using the over the counter "cures". I'd think it was under control and pretty soon I'd find them again. I'm still not sure if someone kept re-infecting her or if we just couldn't kill them all, but we finally had to go to the doctor and get a really strong medicine to put on her scalp. That finally did the trick. The over the counter "cures" don't work unless you are willing to spend every day combing through their hair for hours at a time. If either of my kids get lice again, I'm going to save my money and just go straight to the doctor. I cannot tell you how much money I wasted on those over the counter "cures".

Tea Tree shampoo will help repel lice as well.

Aurgh, SO sorry you're going through this!! It's going around my DD's school and I can only check her hair frequently and knock on wood. We bought a preventive spray and shampoo just to err on the side of caution. We bought it at one of the Kid's hair cut salons (can't remember which one) but so far we've escaped lice in our house ... and I'm knocking on wood some more.

I had to have it done a few times as a kid....they never said I had it but my cousins did and they lived with us at the time so we all get sent home from school to get treated....it really sucked! I got those same letters last year but I checed the boys heads and I didn't see anything so I didn't treat them. I have two boys and I figured the same thing....if they got it I would just shave their heads and DH's the thing that would suck is that I would be unwilling to shave my own head....well maybe not cause I would have a serious case of the skeevies!

Yep, ds's hair is 1/4 inch long now. Since he seems to be carrier #1 for our family it was just easier to shave his head. Nothing for those bugs to hang onto. I haven't seen anything the last couple of days, so hopefully we got rid of them. On the plus side, I got new pillows. Target had some for $2.50 and they're soft as marshmallows.
