We are going to the grandparents for Thanksgiving. My MIL really wants to spend time with my 4 year old DD. She wants to take her to a movie, but I am not okay with that for a number of reasons, that I won't go into. I'm trying to think of some fun things they could do at home together. My MIL is not much for baking, crafts, playing or anything that I can think of. I'm going with who cares, maybe they could make Christmas gifts for other or something. Anyone have good ideas?

My DDs LOVE when Grandma gets books from the library to read with them! Grandma also has a special drawer where she gets fun little toys, books or treats for them. They love to pretend to cook with all Grandmas pots and pans. They get out the cookie cutters and pretend to make cookies. Get out a pad of paper and pretend to play restaurant.
What about watching a movie at the house?

I was just gonna say that.. maybe instead of her spending that money to take her out to a movie (which we all know can break the bank these days) maybe she can get a new movie, something never seen before and they can have popcorn and juice and maybe pick up one of those "movie theatre" candy boxes for them to share!

I typically have my Mother make a gingerbread house with Langston. I do the preliminary work, and Langston enjoys talking to his Grandmother as he decorates the house. Grandma doesn't really do anything, and Langston thinks that he is having the best time with his Grandmother. It is a tradition of sorts!

or maybe a tie blanket that they could tie while sitting together and watching a movie.. or they could put together blessing bags for the homeless (see the volunteer area of MOM) lol
even the uncrafty like collaging... modpodge and magazines on a posterboard of all their favorite thing.. or maybe make it a theme like "what I'm thankful for"

Thanks for the ideas! I had a co-worker come up with a good suggestion too...paint plates. Have DD paint one for Grandma and Grandma paint one for DD. My DD loved this idea because she has a My Little Pony movie that they paint plates in. I'm also going to check on the tie blankets, my work has that as a volunteer event over Thanksgiving. She may like that:)

My mom use to be so active with our son, but things changed and now thankfully ds hasn't noticed, he will sit in the room she is in while she watches tv and he will play with the toys he has there and the ones we take along (when we do go). Throw in a couple of his favorite books and try not to worry so much about what they will do together, just being in the same room may be enough, kids sometimes have ways of making even the littlest things the most enjoyable.
