I do. For the past 12 Thanksgivings, I have worked around 7 or 8 of them. I hate missing the time with my family. I used to try to make a dinner when I came home, but after cooking and serving for 30 to 40, I don't have the gumption. So now I try to cook on Friday instead. I try to make the best of it, being where I don't want to be. I do, however, get tremendous joy out of serving the police officers of Minneapolis who get a free meal at my restaurant.
I realized that after 11 plus years of working on Thanksgiving and Christmas, the holidays don't mean much to me anymore. It has kind of become "just another day"
What do you other working on the Holiday moms do to make the days special even if you have to work?

I have had to work some holidays. In my current position I am usually just on call which typically means I answer questions. A couple of years ago one of my clients died the day after Thanksgiving, so that was a rough "holiday weekend".
Caring for people doesn't take days off.

This is the first year in many that DH has the day off. I usually have thursdays off, so I don't have to work, but I'll be working Christmas Eve and Day, and NYE and Day also. I totally hear you that its become just another day BUT with DS getting older its starting to bother me a little. we'll most likely celebrate on a different day and pretend for DS that its Christmas the day that we celebrate it! Make the best of the situation

I don't work Thanksgiving...but DH does. He works both Thurs and Fri night. I'm glad he has Saturday and Sunday off though.

Oh that is really sad! I love the holidays and I would hate to think of it as just another day. No, I do not work on Thanksgiving or black Friday even. My boss is pretty cool and we get both days off work.

DH has worked a couple of Thanksgivings He has worked at hospitals in the past and it was just his shift. He always worked second or third shift so it didn't really interfere too much. But still not fun when he had to leave.

DH is not scheduled but he is pretty sure he will be asked for (double time) overtime for either thursday day or overnight 12 hour shift. Not crazy and we don't need the money-- he worked 53.5 hours of OT in the first two weeks of the month. So if he works it means I will be watching the kids at my folks place by myself-- little more work for me.
