We are struggling with making DS's Christmas list this year... Since he is the only grandchild on both sides and both of his grandmas love to garage sale and shop he is spoiled rotten. He really doesn't need more toys, plus we don't have the space for them. And he has enough clothes to last him a different outfit every day for months...
What are some creative ideas we can suggest to relatives? His great grandmother always gets him a savings bond every holiday, but we need a few other ideas.
Thanks ladies!

I was going to say memberships too! (there's also SeaLife at MOA).
Would he like tickets to the Children's Theater?
We are planning a family outing to MOA as DH & I gift to DS; we'll do Build A Bear, Sea Life, and Rainforest Cafe....he gets so much stuff that we thought an activity would be fun. Maybe the grandparents can plan a fun activity for just them and your DS as their Christmas gift to him?

Playdates/outings with grandparents. They could make invitation cards (with theme, location and time/date) to various places they want to take him and spend time together. It could even be their own house where they could have a 'themed' playdate to make it more fun.

Yes I second the idea of memberships, I told my mom to get to my son even a membership to Playworks (in Prior Lake) I know some of my daycare parents have the grandparents pay for activities like swimming, ice skating and other stuff for Holidays. Our investor also sends out postcards to family members that we wish so they can get information on how to contribute money to his college savings fund (this actually gets a way better return then savings bond) Then I told family if they want to get my son something to open get him a couple matchbox cars clothes, pajamas or cheaper books. We also have way to many toys around here and he barely even plays with any of them

i love the idea of membership stuff--- also maybe having a day or two where they are taught "secret" family recipes?
My DS has a ton of clothes, toys, and books (some are new, some are gifts, and a lot of good hand me downs from my sister). It makes it hard to tell people stuff to get him so he has something to unwrap (he is 2.5) same for DD (she is 10) and doesn't always take care of her stuff, I think in part because she just has so much! My folks want to make sure she has something to unwrap, but are willing to give her gift cards/money if that is what she asks for

I'm also on the memberships bandwagon.. and I like the idea of an outing like DARA suggested... that'd be a great bday gift idea for next year for my ds! Thanks. lol
not sure if you go to mcdonalds or not, but they could get him a mcdonalds coupons too... or movie gift cards.

suggest giving an "experience" gift--camping, beach, cooking/baking, and so on-- with pictures or coupons for him to redeem. He has something to open and something to create memories that will last

ds had a gift certificate to playworks two years ago, we loved it, you can add three other kids to the card and that is always fun having friends to take along, and they don't have to pay.
This year my in laws are giving ds a gift card to Foss swim school. We paid for three classes last year and it gets expensive, but we LOVE Foss. I am super excited he will get to take more lessons there.
I just LOVE LOVE LOVE the Hallmark books you can record your own voice with. I bought one for my mom to record her voice reading to give to our son for Christmas last year. He LOVES it too. Nana lives on the east coast so we don't see her much. With these books you can lock the record switch so the voice won't get erased by little fingers. And books can last a long time, especially having loved ones voice reading them.
Ice skating lessons.... Bowling lessons... Ski lessons....
Gift card from a certain store, or just a visa gift card. money can be added any time. that way kids can pay for things they want (with mom and dads approval).

Thanks for all the great ideas! Since DH is military we already qualify for free memberships to SeaLife and MN Zoo. We were thinking of doing a Wisconsin Dells trip around his bday in July...
I'll have to look into those recordable books, he would love that!

I agree with everyone above. We've gotten memberships to the MN Zoo, Children's museum, money toward dance and swim classes, etc. in the past and they are the BEST gifts.
