DH & I set a limit and the we don't look too closely at credit card statements until after the gifts are exchanged....it is always hard to be creative though and usually what we "want" is out of our price range.

It is easy for us to get gifts since we do not have any credit cards- no trace We are very forunate in life and god has blessed us. This year we decided to not get eachother gifts and focus on DS now that he is older. We plan to take him to Disney land in the spring for christmas and birthday. We used to go all out on eachother and decided not to this year. Granted our anny is Dec 23rd so we will celebrate that of course!

DH and I decided not to do gifts this year. Just with how tight things are, we'd like to be able to give what we have to the girls. I might sneak him a little something though.

The last few years we've done bigger things for gifts for each other - TV and road trip and then small stocking stuffers. This year he wants a heart monitor to use for training to do a full marathon and I want either a Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet. Last year I think we actually surprised each other with gifts that we didn't know about. No surprises this year!

Vic....if you or your DH are willing to stand in line Sports Authority is giving away gift card type things to the first 80 people in line worth $10-$500....Worth a try maybe? But you have to use them that day. DH is excited to get some cheap running stuff because of it lol..he did it last year but only got a $10 card bummer!

I see a lot of people said the same thing that I am going to say. We don't do gifts. Money is SO tight, and I'd rather focus on DD. And she's only going to get a few things....I usually pick him up a few clothing items, but that's it.

We don't give presents to each other at Christmas. We just can't afford it after the 3 kids we need to buy for. Wait a minute... I thought you had two kids...

I second (or third or fourth) watching the group buying websites for gifts! We bought DD a scuba diving lesson last year and I just picked up a free voucher for $40 worth of fun socks for FREE off of Plum District today ($10 coupon code & $10 plum referral dollars = $20 fee for free!). I know these examples are for my DD but there's no reason it couldn't be done for DH too BTW - Great call on the massage. Your DH is going to LOVE it!

One thing you can do if you don't want him to see the charge on your statement is to get a visa gift card and charge it to that.

that's a smart idea... really smart!! I just don't like the fact that most places you have to pay a fee to get those kinds of gift cards!!

I got DH a circular saw. We have been in our house for 6months and he doesn't have many power tools, or tools for that matter. We took our Xmas budget out in cash, so we know how much we spent. It is working pretty well. Our budget for each other is low because we each got Motorola xoom tablets earlier this year. We were going to get them now, but we ended up getting them earlier.
Dh's b-day is Dec. 24th, and he likes to give gifts. We always make sure to have a little something for each other as well as get some nice things for the kids.
