When do you get lists from your kids? Do they randomly give you the wish list or is it a special day they are supposed to give it to you? Before black friday or after?
Since we celebrate St. Nicholas Day (Dec. 6th), that's the day we get their lists. Usually we know what they really want before that, but it's helpful to make sure we have other options before Christmas actually comes.

My kids just kind of bring it up naturally. The catalogs come in the mail and they pore over them (American Girl doll catalog in particular), and then they hear we adults talking about Christmas plans and what not so they know it's time to drop hint! This year it's a little bit tough because each DD has only asked for ONE thing (an American Girl doll) so they're getting them and maybe a little accessory.

Christmas Lists are due to the Grandparents at Thanksgiving.
We know what they generally want so we can buy as we see the sales. I let them go through the magazines and circle what they want. Then we go through it and make some lists and find out what they are asking Santa for.

We just started letting DD1 go through magazines and circling what she wants and she has had it done for awhile now...DD2 we just kind of guess since she likes EVERYTHING and usually plays the same things her big sister plays with. Thankfully most of the things we want to get them are on sale Black Friday so we'll be out with all the other shoppers!

We do gifts from us on Christmas Eve and gifts from Santa Christmas Day.
I usually go through ads with DD or she'll point out stuff to me at the store when we're out. But I like to have a list put together for her before Black Friday so I can get as much done on Black Friday as possible.

P is too young yet for that, but I keep track throughout the year, as he grows what kinds of things he's been interested in, (mickey mouse, coloring, animals), what kinds of things he's been thriving in, (puzzles, kicking a ball, and learning to say new words)... then I make a list of things that I think would help him achieve a greater level of independence, help him educationally, physically etc... there are very few toys that we have that don't have some kind of educational/fine motor/gross motor value as well as a fun value! Luckily, he's very eagar to learn

DS is still too little for that. He has soooooo many toys that we don't want to get him more of those and he has plenty of clothes! We're at a loss of what to even buy for him. I'm thinking of getting him some savings bonds and possibly a new bed set for his bed.

The kids got new bed sheets one year, mostly because they needed a second set.
