Rocky Road Bars
1/4 cup all purpose flour 1/2 cup walnuts (finely ground) 1/4 tsp baking powder 1/8 tsp salt 1 tblsp vegetable shortening 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Topping: 1 cup miniture marshmellows 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped (I ran out of walnuts making the crust so I substituted coconut)
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease 8in square baking pan. 2. combine flour, walnuts, baking powder, & salt 3. In large bowl, cram the vegtable shortening & brown sugar. Beat in the vanilla extract. Gradually blend in dry ingredients. Spread mixture evenly in prepared pan. 4. Bake for 15 minutes. 5. Meanwhile, to make the topping: In small bowl combine the marshmallows, chocolate chips, walnuts/coconut and toss to blend. 6. Spread the topping mixture evenly over the hot crust. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes longer, until the topping is melted and lightly colored. 7. Cool in the pan on a wire rack before cutting into large or small bars.

Sour Cream Cookies
1 1/2 cups sugar 1 cup butter or margarine 1 cup sour cream 3 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla 4 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons baking powder
Cream butter, add sugar, gradually add eggs, mix well. Stir in sour cream, add vanilla, add dry ingredients. Chill several hours or overnight. Dough is ***very*** soft even after refrigerating. Work in small portions and refrigerate dough that you're not currently working with. Roll out on well floured cloth surface (use rolling pin cover too!). Cut out in circles and place on parchment paper lined cookie sheets. Bake at 350* for 7 - 10 minutes. You DON'T want them brown. When cool, frost.
Orange Frosting Rub 2 teaspoons soft butter into 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar. Add juice and grated rind of one orange. Beat until smooth.

My Grandmother was a marvelous Christmas cookie baker making hundreds of cookies every year. Of all the cookies she made, this was my favorite.

Just and FYI: Twin Cities Live is doing 12 days of cookie recipes right now. The one yesterday looked so good I might have to try it next year. I am done baking for this holiday season.
