I stayed at home for the majority of the winter last year, but this winter will be driving much more with DS (15 months). Hate to say it, but I don't nor have ever had an emergency kit in my car!
Do you?! What kinds of things do you keep in there just in case?

Depends on how much you drive. When I was just driving around my town, I didn't worry about it too much. I did have jumper cables and made sure my cell phone was charged. If I was taking a long trip with my kids, I made sure to have a couple blankets, their snow pants and boots, hats & mittens, etc. I never went anywhere where that was far from civilization and someone who could save me so I didn't worry about it beyond having warm stuff and cell phone.

A car sized good shovel, in case you land in a ditch. And yes, I've had to use one to get out of a ditch. Kitty litter helps with traction, just a small bag works.

When I'm out and about in the winter I feel like I can't be over prepared. I keep a small shovel and stuff to clean off the car, extra windshield wiper flluid, a case of bottled water (also adds weight to the trunk), a couple of fleece blankets, a complete change of clothes and pj's for ds, and also a firstaid/med kit with children's stuff, a lunchbag of snacks that I change out often.. protein bars for the adults, extra diapers and wipes, extra winter hat and gloves for me and ds, a few things to keep ds occupied (books, a few duplos, a few little people) in case we get stuck somewhere, extra sippy cup, kleenex/papertowels/wetwipes/hand sanitizer...
It may seem a little overboard, however if we were to ever get stuck somewhere.. a friend's house, my inlaws.......... the mall.... in a traffic jam if the highways get shut down........ lol I'd have what I need and then some to get me through a day or two or three if needed!

Growing up in the country, we always had an emergency kit in our vehicles during the winter months. My parents took a large empty coffee can and placed into it: a bright piece of long cloth (to tie to the antenna if stuck in a deep ditch), a flare, granola bars, bottle of water, matches (?), a flashlight, and some other emergency items. There was always a shovel, sand or cat litter, and extra blankets in the back as well. Here's a comprehensive list: www.co.carver.mn.us/departments/PH/docs/Car_Emergency_Kit_Checklist.pdf

I really don't have anything in my truck. I don't really drive that far from home. I think DH put jumper cables and a small jack in the car but other then that I don't have anything in there.
