This is random, but my DH and I have been married for 11 years, and it seems like right now all of our appliances that were wedding gifts are breaking. Anyone else have this happen? First it was the vacuum cleaner, then the coffee pot, and yesterday the hand mixer broke. I'm thinking, what, is 11 years the typical lifespan for these items? I admit that I'm thrilled they've lasted this long (yay!) but it's also kind of annoying that they're all falling apart at once!!!

Haha!! Well that's what I was kind of thinking, "Wow, we lucked out they made it this long!" but of course they're all breaking AT ONCE. Thankfully the coffee maker and mixer are pretty inexpensive to replace. The vacuum on the other hand ... not so much.

We've replaced a blender (married almost 14 years) and electric can opener-- few times-- most stuff is OK but not used that much and keep getting new kitchen "toys" (rotisserie, toaster oven, etc) I think we may have gone through a couple of microwaves too.

That's a bummer that all of your stuff is breaking at the same time!
Our vacuum lasted 5 years (we got my brother's when he divorced and moved across the country) Our coffeemaker, toaster and blender are going strong at about 7-8 years old. My mom got me a KitchenAid Stand Mixer about 10 years ago and after a $50 repair (it was leaking oil) it is going strong.
I don't cook nearly enough so pots and pans are looking good about 10 years later!

Wow 11yrs is a long time! I have had my hand mixer forever it seems like and it still works great. We have only been able to purchase cheap appliances and for the most part they have lasted a good long time. Our microwave is going out still cooking but the plate isn't rotating. I think we have had that for about 10 years so we are due for a new one!

OK, I don't feel so bad that after 8 years that my Food processor and stand mixer are going out. Where did you go to get your kitchen aid mixer repaired? The motor on mine sounds off balanced.

My mom called KitchenAid to get repair location information.
I got it fixed at HarMar Lock & Key in Roseville/Falcon Heights (it's in a strip mall on the corner of Snelling & Larpenteur close to the State Fairgrounds)

I have had to replace my waffle iron at least 3 times since we have been married(13 years). I think I am on my second hand mixer. I think I am on my 3 vacuum, but up till now I have only bought $70 or less. This time I got a nice shark, so it better last longer and it does a great job.

OK so this is a random question, but I have/had an AWESOME bread maker, Oster brand, but it's broken. (Yes, add that to my list of appliances that are all breaking! But this one wasn't a wedding gift, I think it's about 3 years old.) They're expensive so I don't want to buy a new one, but I don't know if it's cost effective to pay for someone to fix it either (the little mixing device on the bottom won't turn, it makes a terrible grinding sound but won't knead the bread). Anyone ever had a broken bread maker? Did you fix it, and if so, do you remember how much it cost and where you went?
