Have you or your children ever have a ruptured eardrum? What were the symptoms? How did you discover it? What did you do about it? How long did it take to heal?

Yes ... my DD did, I think she was about 1 1/2 or 2 years old at the time. We suspected that she had an ear infection (fever, rubbing at her ear, could tell she was feeling "off") and we had a doctor's appointment that day. But it happened very quickly--before we could get in, her ear got all goopy and nasty, almost like a whole bunch of runny ear wax ... and it was from her eardrum rupturing. The pediatrician verified that. If I'm remembering correctly, she had special ear drops that we put in her ear with cotton over to keep them in, she'd have to lie on her side etc. to keep the medicine in there. It seemed to heal rather quickly ... once her meds (she was also on antibiotics) kicked in, her fever went down, the symptoms ended, and she was back to normal soon.

I ruptured my ear drum when I was younger. It was extremely painful and there was puss and blood coming out of my ear. Mom took me to the dr and I was put on antibiotics and ear drops. Not really sure how long it took to heal but I still have problem with that ear to this day. It's very sensitive.

DD1 had one about 1-2 years ago. There was puss and blood coming out. We thought she was picking her ear but she kept complaining so we took her in. Antibiotics and ear drops for us, too.
