Does anyone know if you can swim with an ear infection? I meant to ask at Target Clinic today when DS was diagnosed, but completely forgot and he has swim lessons tomorrow. He is acting just fine and running around, just haven't had this come up before.

Shouldn't be a problem. The infection is in the middle ear. The water can't get to the infection. If he had tubes, then it would be a problem. It's more a question if he feels up to it. I know when I was a kid, cold made my ears hurt worse. I spent a lot of time with a heating pad. If the water is cold, he may not like it. It won't damage anything though.

Thanks! He has only had one other ear infection and I can't remember if he was in swimming lessons at the time.
He is acting normal, except for being a bit crabby and not very patient...but he is also 3 1/2 so sometimes he is crabby and not patient anyway. We'll ask him how he feels tomorrow.

You should probably put ear plugs in so that more water doesn't get in the ear. My sister got ear infections all the time and had to have several surgeries for it. They had her wear ear plugs when she had an infection anytime she was in a situation where water could get in her ear, bath, pool, etc.. granted that this occurred almost 20 years ago, plus wouldn't hurt, plus it might help so that the infection doesn't spread to other kids.
