I was watching that movie last night, and it got me thinking....have you ever had a scary experience while you were babysitting? Prank calls, someone knocking on the door and then running away... Thankfully, I never had a scary experience and I babysat A LOT when I was younger!

I did. I remember someone calling repeatedly and insisting I put the child's parents on the phone and saying if I didn't he would come over. I remember being quite frightened and calling home, and my parents sending my (adult) brother over to stay with me. This was in the time before cell phones, so it was hard to reach the parents. It turned out it was a friend or relative of theirs with some mental health issues and HE was frightened, thinking I was not supposed to be there.

Thank goodness it wasn't anything TOO serious! But scary anyway!

Yes, my memory of it was that in the end the guy was definitely harmless, but that I was definitely scared! I don't think I babysat for that particular family again.

Nothing that I can remember. I babysat all of the time- no time for a "regular" job because of all of the babysitting. Of course I lived out in the boondocks and most of the families I worked for did as well. Maybe that had something to do with it.

I also did a lot of babysitting when I was younger. I had a couple of crazy things happen....
One night I was filling in for my sister who usually babysat for this family and I kept hearing noises outside. I was pretty young, and didn't like to be alone at night as it was so this really scared me. The baby was already sleeping so I went and sat in the hall next to the baby's room until the parents got home. While the dad was driving me home he asked if I had any problems...and I said no. He went on to tell me the neighborhood has been having problems with a peeping Tom!!! I am sure he was there that night!
The next thing that happened was when I was babysitting for the Pastor that lived on our street....I got a call from a hysterical man saying he needed to talk to the pastor, and he was going to kill himself!! Again, this was before cell phones so I didn't know what to do! I talked to him for a couple of minutes and thankfully it was almost time for the Pastor to be home...I never found out what happen after that!
Looking back I think I was too young to be babysitting in both of these cases. I was only 12 or so when these things happened, and think an older teenager could have handled them, or any emergency better. This is why I would hesitate to let a young teenager, other than my own, babysit my younger children!
