What moving company would you recommend. We are trying to decide on a truck we drive ourselves or doing the kind where the company drives it we pack it. We want a good company whether it's just a rental truck or the other kind. Wich is the best, which have you used before? I heard bad things about u-haul but havnt researched much beyond that. It would be for about 1600 miles so it's a long trip. We also need to have a car towed behind the truck...if that makes any difference.
Thanks!

Our truck was U-Haul. We had to stop in Billings, MT for repairs which were done quickly and efficiently and had us back on the road in 2 hours. I think you just have to get lots of bids being you have time. Our friends had 2 26 ft truckloads driving from Kentucky to Washington including hotel stays overnight and meals for the drivers. They also paid for the insurance that covers anything and everything with the truck. This still came in cheaper than hiring someone to do it for them.
It becomes a toss up of time vs. money.

When my DH got transferred to MN, his company paid for movers for us. It was Mayflower, and they were great. They moved everything into the house where we wanted it, and in a half a day! Is it a possibility with the new job that they might pay for movers or some relocation?

Hmmm well it is with the VA and they generally do not pay moving expenses unless it is for an extremely high paying job....which it isn't haha. Go figure huh? People who could afford to pay movers get free stuff and those who can't have to fork over the money.

We went with Penske and had the tow dolly behind it for the car. No problems with the truck and made it all 1300 miles both ways. (From MN to AZ, then from AZ to MN again 2 years later).

Where are you moving from and to? We are getting a quote from Allied I think. But DHs company is paying so I have no clue the cost.

We are moving from St. Cloud to Tacoma Washington. Dh will be working in Olympia but we wanted to be closer to Seattle so we did the half way point for both cities :-)
I think the most affordable will be for us to drive a truck which is about $1200...I am just terrified of gas costs....
