I am so excited to FINALLY be able to paint the house! We are closing on our house on Thursday and I am ready to paint and make it our own. So, I need some advice... My living room furniture is black/brown/cream. Would grey walls look ok with my furniture? My house needs light colors to brighten it up as there isn't much light in the house! Thanks!

Grey would be great! I've looked at lots of houses lately that use grey as the main neutral and it looks really nice! =)

I was thinking of doing browns but I love greys and grey would look great with the yellow walls in my kitchen too! Thanks!

Look to your furniture and pick a color from there. Perhaps you could choose a color from a painting you plan on hanging with such a neutral couch?
Bring home a bunch of color chips you think you might want to go with it, then see what matches. Then take the next step and get a sample of the color and paint it on your wall, it will look a little different when it's on your wall. That way you're not wasting your money on a whole gallon until you're sure.

IMO, grey colors (like blue ones) are a little cold and make rooms dark. If you want more light, I would go with happy/warm light inducing colors (like yellow tones, orange tones, peach without red hues in it).

I think grey is the best color :-) I really think a blue would go nice with your furniture colors though, like a cornflower blue....

My BIL & SIL have their walls a nice grey color in their apt! They have black and brown furniture and I think it fits really well.

Since you have a cream color in your couch and want to brighten the room, that would be the best bet. There is a psychology to how colors make you feel and blue (or even grey in the blue spectrum) will have a calming effect, while those in the yellow spectrum will be cheerful and energizing, even make for better thought processes.

I have the same issue with my house. Not a lot of light inside. We are planning on painting the boys rooms a really light light grey. I also have black furniture and I was thinking a very light blue for my living room.

Oh I didn't know this when we originally painted but flat paint apparently atracks dirt and is really hard to clean and after while your walls look really dirty and gross so whatever you do do NOT buy flat paint.
