Dara,
Thank You for sharing Ken Barlow's story, information/link.
"I'm not going to do this anymore, I'm not going to be ashamed. Two million people have this in the country, and millions of others deal
with depression and other forms of mental illness. I'm not alone."
I think he was being courageous in sharing his story, to not be ashamed
anymore. I hope he is able to feel supported and he is also helping
educate others. I think it will help others to know they are not alone too.

I really appreciated his message. Bipolar disorder is nothing to be ashamed of and I am happy that he shared his story and hope by spreading the word it can help others.

I just sent that link to my mother-in-law. A friend of hers has a daughter who was just diagnosed and I think the family would be encouraged to know how many well-known people are able to manage their illness successfully.

I worked with Ken for many years on the 10pm news...I was his producer. I could not put into words how courageous I thought it was that he decided to come forward with his diagnosis. I get so angry at the stigma associated with mental illness -- people just do not understand it and have no idea what others go through. Thanks for paving the way, Ken!

I'm so excited that people are refusing to be shamed and coming forward with their experiences. I claim my mental illness as well--depression. It doesn't make me a lesser person. It makes me me.
