Lately our daughter has been randomly getting irritation around her mouth, looks like a rash or small breakout. It doesn’t seem to bother her and it comes and goes. At first I thought it was maybe dry skin from wiping her face after meals with wipes, damp towels. Then we thought maybe it was from her Nuk or something and we needed to clean it more often—she only uses it for naps and bedtime. But our daycare provider said she thought it was an acid allergy/sensitivity. She said she’s noticed it after our daughter has ketchup, oranges, etc. She’s been eating mandarin oranges, etc. for a long time and for this to appear now seems odd. Has anyone dealt with this with their kids? Our daughter will be two next week. As I said, it doesn’t seem to bother her and she’s not having any other tummy issues, so I guess it’s probably not too serious, but it looks a bit icky to have an irritation around one’s mouth!

Kids can develop allergies over time as can adults. I know one of my co-workers kids is allergic to milk and once they got french fries from McDonalds and he got a rash all over his mouth and they later found out that the fries have milk in them. So it could very well be an allergy. I don't know what they do for it or anything but seeing an allergist might be a good thing to do.

Could it be she is licking her lips? I know a friend of my DD1's who is 8 and she constantly licks her lips and has a terrible rash around her mouth.

I ate pears my entire life up until about five years ago when I broke out in a rash on my mouth, face, and throat. I did an internet search and discovered that it's a common allergy to have when you have TREE allergies. The pollen in the tree fruit is close enough to the tree itself that you develop an allergy to it. When I followed up with my allergy doctor it was confirmed, tree allergies. The good news is that when you cook, can, process the fruit it changes the DNA of it enough that you should still be able to eat it. At least that's what works for me. It's been over five years since I've eaten a fresh pair, apple, plum...

Weird on the fries my kid has a dairy allergy and has never broken out in hives because of the fries.
Could be the licking of the lips, a friend of mine brought her DD in about her rash on her chin and they told her to use Cetiphil and Aveno to try and help it.

My DD gets a mild rash/redness around her lips after she eats certain foods that have spices like cinnamon, for instance. The redness or mild rash lasts only a few hours and then it is gone.
