**Warning**Vent Ahead**
Let me preface this post by saying that I fully understand that this is a very sensitive subject. If I offend anyone, or hurt anyone's feelings, I sincerely apologize, it is most definitely NOT my intention to do so. This is NOT a bashing post, rather me just venting my feelings..
So...I have a co-worker who is about 7 months pregnant. She still smokes regularly!! When I pulled up to work this morning, she was outside, smoking, and hacking up a lung. Every time I see her smoke, my heart breaks for her innocent, unborn baby. I just feel like it is such a selfish decision...can you really not stop smoking for 9 months?? You have your whole life to smoke! I truly understand how difficult it is to quit smoking, but it's the time to think about your child's needs and not your own.
Thanks for letting me vent. Again, I apologize if I have offended anyone.

I have been told that if they quit cold turkey it can cause stress for the baby. I had a friend who cut down and eventually I think was able to stop but not sure if she picked back up again.
I could be wrong! I don't agree with it either.

I've heard that too. My co-worker hasn't cut down at all though.

I know when i was pregnant and had to go back on antidepressants, after the first trimester, they put me on Wellbutrin as that was safer than others-- it is also marketed as Zyban for smoking cessation-- my DH used it to quit smoking and it evened out his moods-- while he was taking it at least-- you can smoke while you are on it-- like chantix-- but not sure how that is on baby

It can cause stress to quit cold turkey but my doctor said that the stress is still better than the smoke. Obviously it would be best not to have had smoked at all, but quitting is still best.
I smoked before I had DS, quit while I was pregnant, and eventually (unfortunately) started again shortly after I quit breastfeeding. It's a nasty habit, and hopefully someday I'll quit for good, but yes it was much easier to quit while I was pregnant knowing that my baby wouldn't have to suffer for my decision.

I am like Apryll. With both my boys I smoked before I got pg and once I was pg I quite. I did good after DS1 was born I didn't start smoking again until he was almost a year old but with DS2 I started again right away.

Mo and Apryll, I think it's great that you quit while pregnant. I used to be a social smoker before I got pregnant, but quit as soon as I found out. I tried smoking a few times after I had DS, but my throat and lungs were not having it!! I guess that was my cue to quit forever lol

I am a stress smoker that's why I started right away with DS2 and not DS1. It also makes it somewhat harder to quite. So I really don't even smoke that much on a regular day.
I have known some women that smoked throughout there pgs and had 6lbs babies....mine were both over 8lbs. I always wondered if it was because of their smoking and the fact that I had quite.
