It seems the TV is almost always on as background noise. Mostly during the day it is DisneyJr, NickJr,, pbskids, or pbsSprout (preschool only shows). He is almost 4 (in March) seems smart and ahead for his age and even his preschool teacher thinks it is not too bad since that may be the only time he actually sit still (very active kid). His early childhood screening for school is tomorrow so I may know more then, DD had a lot a TV when she was younger (she is 11 now) and she has ADD, but she also spent more years at a day care center sinc eI worked until she was over 8. I was let go when DS was only about 9 months old so have been around him more. I guess we will see.

its on a lot as background noise, but not always as tv shows... a lot of times its a music channel (I love the 80's music lol but ds is really active too... and sometimes it is the only way he will relax his body... and he's always doing other things (cars, blocks or books) while his show is on. I will admit it does come in handy when I'm cooking and have two screaming kids.

Wow, I am not the norm. The TV almost never gets turned on. DH and I watch some TV after the kids go down. It is a special reward for DD1, or if she is sick she can watch TV. Again, our TV is in the basement, so it is out of the way. In fact, DH insists no TV on the main floor or in kids bedrooms.
DD1 has fairly severe ADHD, and I used to leave the TV on for her, she generally wouldn't watch much. Once we stopped turning it on all the time, her behavior got waaaaay better. The more TV she watches, the worse her behavior.
I grew up with the TV on constantly, my parents and sister would even sleep with it on.

We watch very little....we watch a show or two in the morning....one show while dinner is being made and the rest of the day it is either off or the music channel is on. I'm not sure why we pay for it because when the kiddos go to bed DH and I usually play a game, clean up the house and go to bed by 10ish. We watch the news from time to time.
If it is on a lot....dd and ds don't usually watch it any ways.

Another reason we try not to watch every day is b/c my daughter is like a sponge....she can watch a show 2 or 3 times and memorize the storyline etc. So we just like to limit it so it doesn't seem like she is watching it all the time if you didn't know her.
